In September me and some lads from Newcastle are heading down to a place called Manyana. Staying in a massive house on Sunset Strip overlooking Inyadda Point. So has anyone got any advice on good surf spots around there? The cats im going with are all short board heros, so I will be looking for a nice long point break.

You've got Bendalong north (and boat ramp if it's huge outside), Pancakes just about out front and the amazing Green Island south of you.

The south end of Manyana called Dunny Bowls can be a fun longboard wave too but make Green Island home and you'll be loving life.

...watch some footage of the 1999 Billabong Challenge and Longboarding is not a crime for great footage of waves from that area.

Unreal, now just need to wait and see what the swell is doing so i can take the right board. 9'6" Pieter Easyrider or the 9'0" Pieter quad? Maybe both.

Or you could look at maps and weather sites and have fun working spots out yourself. F#ck!!!

Thanks Pete, good advice. Never thought of that. Next time i try to spark a conversation ill shut the f**k up, and offer the same advice next time someone asks about surfing in or near Newcastle.

Get a grip mate. Secrets spots are a long long distant memory; even on the South Coast.

steve, until you posted, i had never heard of the place, I'd heard of Green island, but that's all.

I've just spent an enjoyable 15 minutes on google maps exploring the area, looks nice, you'll have fun, wish it was me.

Secret spots FM

And Steve south of and in Ulladulla which is a short drive you've got, Golf Coarse,Southern end of Mollymook,Rennies,Point Noreast,Lake Tabourie Beach and Reef,Bawley Point areas,all good ones,you'll have fun mate!...


They are not secrets I surfed em 30 years ago.....

I see this has got the blood up with a few.!

I'm not suggesting secret spots still exist or that we should not use the fantastic technology that is available. I do think asking for surf spots online when all this information is available is lazy but more importantly identifying them is disrespectful to locals regardless of where that may be( even Newcastle).

Living in the 70s... ah for the good old days of a glove box full of NRMA maps and the Daily Mirror page three weather report. Now that was a proper road trip.

Good response Pete,topic of conversation perhaps?asking like minded people who may have good knowledge of the area is something this longboard forum is all about, in this day and age were many are stretched for time and have little time to waist on wrong spots, winds,tides.blah blah blah.

Nailed it. The journey and finding spots is the best bit of a roady. Finding that uncrowded peak, you, a few mates and nice waves is about the best thing in Surfing. The south coast is luckily one of the few places where you can still do this.

OK so what about that blow in who continually calling for road trips to spot x,is he correct in doing so ?

Chrispy were you bagging board brands in your deleted post if so we are well past that mate
and come on troll away it makes it fun. But coming from a place that was exposed many years ago I guess I didn't know there were still secret spots still being protected.

I agree and there are a few little nooks and crannies down south that have been kept quiet. Years back we'd all pile into a few cars and go looking. That's half the fun. Driving down dirt roads would often lead to nothing but there were times when we'd find something memorable.
