Hi Guys, would love to get into longboarding, however originally from the east coast of UK so no real wave experience paddling, however Im a kiter of 13 years and play in the waves with a surfboard ok but not great.

I would like to paddle through the winter here in Perth, any tips would be appreciated and if there are any mentors south of perth would be keen to chat and learn.

What area in Perth will you be surfing? Southern beaches and groynes, southern reefs, northern beaches and groynes, or northern reefs? That will give an idea on the types of waves And help the guys in the know guide you on what board.

Ok, so pretty much your standard beach break normally about chest high. I think Steve Del Rosso (Clearwater surfboards) was from that area originally so will know the waves.

Theres also a 2nd hand Katana board on gumtree for about $500. Worth a look. I just bought my 1st longboard this week and picked up a Katana (local shaper).

Thanks for the heads up on the board, ive had Katana repair a few of my kiteboards.

Are shore breaks good for learning or would it be worth looking for a groyne?

I struggle reading the swell so something a bit predictable with a similar shape may help. Dont want to be the nusance noob in a good spot.
