I rembered a topic where you were saying you work in Newcastle a bit and always thought of going to MR surf shop, news is the shop will be closing, the link below is a good article on a Newcastle institution and the history to the shop. Guessing there aren'tmany shops where 3-4 generations of the one famiy have bought boards. Good thing is boards will still be available.

I'll try to get in there over the next few days to get some board porn shots of his old boards that hang in the shop.

Thanks for the heads up on this SP. I feel kinda sad to hear this, but happy for Mark and Jenny that they can wind down a bit (hopefully).

As a school kid who grew up in Newie i bought my first bodyboard from Ray Richards in 1977. It was an original Morey Boogie. Thing is i still have it, much to my wife's displeasure! Apparently its one of only two known to exist in Australia.

As for Mark, such a nice guy and a great ambassador for Newcastle and surfing in general. - Mark

I walked past the shop several times at night, staying around there. Then on Melbourne Cup Day when I had the chance, I went past, but it was shut!

Nothing to be sorry about Lacey !
Thanks for posting.
In my book, classic midlengths like MR's single are more than welcome in The Long Room!

Nice vid Lacey, if your apologising for that than i should beg forgivness for some of the crap i post but. the best video I remember of him is at very sizey Merewether point flying across huge waves in a Fluro wettie and on a pretty small board. Tried to google it but couldn't find video of it, I'll keep looking when I get in front of a proper computer.

As for board porn sorry Chripy but the collectible stuff was gone when I dropped past and it was a bit of a zoo as it was only yesterday that Newcastle found out. He hadn't kept it a secret but he was just going to shut up on Saturday and then not reopen. Good demonstration of what BC said, he is a very humble bloke and doesnt make a fuss.
a great ambassador for Newcastle ans surfing.

Good story Mark.i worked up there on the dredges for a few years between 1980 and 83 and got a few twinnies from Ray Richards shop. I went in there one day and there was MR fixing some groms skateboard surrounded by at least 10 of them. Classic bloke and really humble. I think Mick Adam still works in there or he was when I went in there about 4 years back. My brother in law has an original Morey Boggie as well. I wonder if it's worth as much as an 80s MR twinnie.
