After spending all of last year out of the water due to shoulder surgery I am now dusting off the quiver and getting back into the flow of things, Including Seabreeze.

In the process I've been checking out the 10.25" Crescent fin by Shapers for my 10.0 Model T, and wondering if any of you guys have tried it out, or have any comments on it? I really only ride this board when its under 2 foot and I'm looking for some more time on the nose!

Good to see you are getting back into the water. Not tried one of those fins before - they look HUGE to me ! Lots of hold. Most fins I have ever used have been pretty good so just have a lash - it might turn out to be the fin of yr dreams

The only input I can make is from the previous owner of my 10' log. He originally had it made with a glassed in hatchet fin which he said was perfect for places like Noosa where he said all he had to do was turn walk and perch. Other breaks which required the ability to turn the board more he found to be a challenge. He removed the hatchet fin put a fin box in and a 10"dolphin which I now ride and find quite easy to turn to cutback etc. and remains stable on the walk/shuffle to the front ( mind you this thing is 24"wide)

Who knows now that it has a fin box I may experiment with a hatchet fin at some stage one of those things you won't know till you try it.

My new 10' CW will come with a 10" Shapers Big Kahuna "Classic fin setup for the true soulman. Perfect fin for nose riding and performing classic cutbacks and carves."
http://www.shapers.com.au/products/10%22-Big-Kahuna.html

But i'll probably also grab a 10.25" Sea Monkey for those super small dayz "The Sea Monkey is the go to noseriding pro! The Sea Monkey is designed so you can spend as much time on the nose as you like, the upright outline allows for tight pivot turns and the full template slows the board down and keeps the tail in the water while you are on the nose. Suits squaretail logs, but offers a traditional feel to any log." www.shapers.com.au/products/10.25%22-Sea-Monkey.html

Thanks for the feedback so far guys. The Big Kahuna and Sea Monkey both look good and are on the consideration list. As I mentioned I am looking to setup a board to really get some serious time on the nose on the smaller days. If the surf is more suited to pulling off big turns and cut backs I have other boards that I would be taking out in the first place.

Looks like it would have to be good for noseriding, I'd like to try one myself

They are good for noseriding but are slow and draggy- hence why they are good for noseriding! I've got an Almond Huck which I use in my Tyler Double Duece stepdeck, but prefer a 10" Velzy Classic for 3' plus beachies. Bought an 11" fin from well known big name Byron manufacturer - trying to do the right thing and buy Aussie- full of pinholes, runs in the glass & poor finish. Also took an hour of sanding to get the thing to fit. Ended up removing the sticker- I won't advertise poor finish- and sanded the whole fin to a stealthy looking matt finish with 1200 grit wetrub. I know the fin was handmade, but my gullwing fins from McCoy are as well and have perfect finish.....

If your only concern is nose time you could try this bad boy:

That Koanda has been around that long that if it was half as good as they claim we all would have had one when we had more hair and less waist. Thanks for the link, but I think I will leave that one to another test pilot!

Personally I have the see monkey and it is great up to 3 feet. Noserides beautifully and pivots really well. Not good for cut backs though. It's just pivot off the bottom and to the nose then reset and repeat.

Took the "Captain Mitch Abershere" out for her first run this morning. Was waist high and super inconsistent but noticed a HUGE difference on the front third, was super stable and managed to hold through steeper sections even when a bit behind, which is generally balls on a flap flap flapping surftech.

Managed a few "cheater" 5's and actually turned pretty decent. Cant wait to try it on some better waves and even more so the new log as the surftechs not really a NR board... YEW!!!

Same deal today. I bought one of these

Always liked thin tip, wide base and fairly upright fins so hopefully it's a good all round single for the LB

Yeah, that fin looks super nice and a bargain, was tempted too but my cw comes with a shapers big kahuna, which is kinda similar and i think will be my go to fin. so I wanted to try something different, purely for super small days and Tom wegener swears by the d fin idea, only one surf and I loved it tho
