Today I had the pleasure of a long chin wag with Vanders, talking surfing, board design, shapes and tints.

One thing we discussed was nose and tail shape.

I much prefer a pulled in nose = no catching
I also prefer a rounded pin,pin tail over the square tail.

I find the pin shaped tails much more reactive than the square.

What do you guy's like

same....I also like some nice stiff rails from the rounded pin all the way up the lower 1/6ish part of the board - normally just past where the side fins would be.

I am a big fan of tints and love Simondo's blue as a colour.

But the thing I love most is uncrowded long glassy 3 ft right hand peelers with the sun coming up......I know any longboard goes well in those conditions but my one seems to just love them My Sweet Potato loves those conditions also which makes it hard to decide some days......

I like GODDARD Longboards .... classic yet modern great finish and handshaped to your dims

Being sh!te to ok all I need is something not too hard edged rails , same nose as the above gentlemen but a touch more lift than usual to help .... rounded Pin tail thrust set up fins

I'd like to keep improving I'd like a traditional Log I'd like to move to the ES asap

I'd love wave or 10 tomoro and it looks sweet if not a touch breezy

well I think its time you manned up and either

1 - purchased one
2 - had a ride on one of Macs many

Next time I am up yr way you can come out with me - it will be 2 short boarders who are learning to ride a longboard.....sd provide loads of entertainment for others. It would also mean that we can just "accidentally drop in" as we are beginners

did you really think that a topic could stay on topic? Let alone on a Monday night? Come on Mac - you still in holiday mode or something?

Don't know a great deal about design, but I can usually believe what I see. Last Saturday me an MR were having a surf and a mate of his called Mick turns up with a big westcoast board and he's struggling to get a wave. He's perling, and rolling all over the place with few results.

After about half an hour, he swaps boards and jumps on MRs 10' Diverse, immediately he pulls off a killer left.

It may be that the diverse suited him better than the westcoast, but then I've never seen anyone surf a westcoast well, and I know the Diverse surfs good because it was the board that convinced me to go back and try a Polly board after a 5 year hiatus.

So what makes a good boad? A good shaper I guess.

i was always a rounded pin man(ted summed it up nicely) yet when i got sdr to make my smile board i was not that happy to see a square tail on it

BUT now i love it. i will do a review off this board with pics as i have had it long enough and had..HAD surfed it heaps.
why i think it works is the fact the square is not big. in fact it is very thin and not wide with a big amount of tail lift. i run two big side fins and a tiny shark fin stabiliser(board still works really well with a small trailer) and imo this board would go backward with a rounded pin/pin. the loosest board i have surfed
