Its never too late to fix this problem, each high tide leaves rubbish along the tide mark daily, paddling and mid paddle you will often come in contact with bottles, plastic however Quicksilver and the surfrider foundation has done and continue to work with locals a massive clean up campaign is currently under way.Trackers are cleaning the hot spots up daily, the Balo's blame Java but I think its a cop-out,they dump waist inland close to the creeks and they wash out to sea with every heavy downpour.I'v noticed over the years the beaches are much cleaner then they have been so sometime is working. Some tourists need to have a good look at themselves as they are 30% of the problem imo.

From Slim's (baliwaves.com) Facebook...normally I wouldn't post peoples facebook messages publicly, but the author has expressed a need to spread the word on this & quite rightly so

Gday Slim , I hope you can help out here ..., Today at Padang Padang Beach 10th August 2013, air asia thought it would be a good idea for force thousands upon thousands of stupid brochures (advertising their Darwin/Bali route) into the hands of unsuspecting tourists , and due to lack of interesting readable material and stupid tourists and lack of bins ..., these stupid brochures all ended up completely scattered all over the beach and temple areas from one end to the other . No one from air asia would take responsibility for the filthy mess and those idiots probably think it was an advertising success . I for one will never fly again with them because of it, nor use the business of companies or individuals who think making the beach look like a filthy **hole is a good way to advertise. I have already made my point of view very clear to air asia management this evening (and also to many other company owners in the past who are guily of similar crimes) So please help send the
message to these idiots that this form of advertising just not on. PLEASE send complaints to air asia here via this air asia contact page and let them know how you feel about it ; http://www.airasia.com/my/en/e-form.page ..., I suggest you join me and vent your disgust also , hopefully we can get them realize their sins and change their ways for the better.

On a recent trip to Bali I had a bad day with pollution. Just about to paddle out to a nice lil right & I stepped on a big glob of oil or greese mixed with sand that I couldn't scrape off. Luckily an awesome local saw me trying to scape this crap off with a rock & gave me some steel wool & some washing detergent from his warung....Headed up to Blue Bay Nth of Padang Bai later to do some snorkling. We'd enjoyed this formally beautiful spot a few years back but unfortunately this time one corner of the beach was a rubbish catchment & when weswam out the back along the rocks you could see the current bringing more rubbish to the beach. You literally had to dodge plastic bags from time to time. It was really sad
