Looking for some feed back on the SLX board's. Mainly loking for feedback on strength and how easy they are to repair. Rescently I have had some bad luck, snapping a 9'0 firewire and 9'1 Bonga Southpoint. I have been looking very closely at the McTavish F4. Any feed back about the Slx construction would be good. I know webber are using it in their boards aswell as some other's.
I equate the SLX as being as tough as a strong polyester glass job but super light. Similar weight to a 4oz top and bottom but way stronger. Tuflites are stronger in terms of pressure dings and the like. Repairs the same as a polyester board as long as you use an epoxy based resin or putty in contact with the foam and then regular fibreglass cloth with epoxy or polyester resin over top. Bit of colour and as good as new.
The SLX F4 goes really well and especially as a 2 +1 setup. They are incredibly light but I am not too sure how they are really holding up because they really have only been around in mal form for less than twelve months. If the slx webbers are any indication then I dont think the slx mals f4 or fireball will have a long life. If it is the f4 in particular that you like then I would get in contact with Ben McTavish and get a real one made for you. If light weight and strength is what you are after then go for a tuflite. I guess it depends on what your want hey - the gsi boards aren't a lot cheaper than a real mctavish and there is really no comparison in my books. If you are looking for tough and lightweight high performance beach break board then the tuflite mctavish original is hard to beat. And as testament to this, there are not too many days in a week when you wont see Bob McTavish driving around byron without his tuflite original on the roof.
