Can we defend our title?

Its not far away now....Aussies get robbed at the cashpoint on their first night out on the turps.... whilst SBW upsets but excites the Kiwi challenge.....3 of the Burgess boys are in the England squad plue their amazing fullback (headed for the Warriors next year). Lots of NRL players in the minor teams....I think its going to be a blinder of comp!!!!

I must admit, I am more excited about this WC then any previous.
With BWS and the Burgess Bros and a few other dual passports floating around other teams it should be good viewing.

Boom see you in the final NZ.....I see Billy Slater still enjoys throwing the speculator pass at the worst time so you guys might be in with a shot....any one who think SWB is better than GI must have rocks in their head or sheep on the brain

If the Brits had been cleaner , the Oz lads would have had some serious egg on face first up ..... was not too flash that first up effort - but the cobwebs had to be blown off I guess , a danger game out of the way

They always have been - its a wonder they were not briefed on this issue and had it drilled into them.

From today's Daily Telegraph by Phil Rothschild (I don't generally read his articles however this is pretty spot on)

SAM Burgess should have been suspended for the remainder of the Rugby League World Cup. He is a thug.

No other word adequately describes the man???s appalling and inexcusable behaviour on rugby league fields in 2013.

This is the fifth occasion the South Sydney forward has been involved in foul play and unsavoury incidents in 2013.

It???s a record that is starting to make Les Boyd, Bob Cooper and Adrian Morley look like clean players.
Burgess

The squirrel grip, a crusher tackle, the facial (almost gouging) of James Maloney, a head-high on Mitchell Pearce and now a good old fashioned stiff arm on Sam Thaiday.

And his penalty? If this was a one-off incident for the season, two weeks would be sufficient punishment ??? even if England???s next two World Cup fixtures are inconsequential matches against Ireland and Fiji.

There???s every chance he would be rested for one of the games anyway.

On Monday, I spoke to recently-retired NRL match-review committee chairman Greg McCallum about the incident.
Sonny Bill Williams left red faced after touch line slip-up 0:47

He???s had more experience dealing with foul play than anyone else in the game. He says it was reckless, rather than careless, meaning a higher penalty if it was going before the NRL judiciary.

It takes a lot to knock over Kangaroo second-rower Sam Thaiday, let alone leave him sprawled out on the turf with concussion.

One of the toughest forwards of the modern era, he was attacked to the head as Burgess came in like a missile.

With the football under one arm and players already in the tackle, Thaiday had no hope of protecting himself.
France scrape past Papua New Guinea 0:50

This was not just a cheap shot, but a brutal and dangerous swinging arm that could easily have broken Thaiday???s jaw.

The fact he wasn???t sent off immediately was a joke.

Burgess used to be one of the most admired and respected forwards in the NRL.

He is a super football player but his foul-play record this year can no longer just be ignored.
Former NRL winger Steve Turner reviews Australia's World Cup opener 6:14

Outside the cases he was charged on, I also had a problem with the tackle that ended Matt Cooper???s career in the Dragons-Rabbitohs match.

Accidents can often happen in the high collision, high speed game that is rugby league.

But there is nothing accidental or even careless about squirrel grips and crusher tackles.

It???s thuggery.

Sam Burgess needs to be taught a lesson.

His World Cup should be over.

Nah i reckon 2 weeks. A seriously hard player like Burgess doesn't need the grubby stuff in his game but it seems he can't help himself.

Some of these minor teams have had some great matches.......but the real news today is that

Billy Slater has been arrested by police at the WorldCup in England - they are saying it is for assault in a nightclub. Whoops.

^^ seriously? Wow...

And yes some good games. Some of those Polynesian forward packs are deadly, great to watch.

. I watched fiji and the poms on sunday and fiji may have been beaten easily on the scoreboard but physically Fiji gave it to them . Those Sims boys are nutters...

The Australian Rugby League team has been rocked by reports Billy Slater has been arrested following their previous win.

Details are few at this stage, but as the Australian team looks to wrest back the Rugby League World Cup, any off-field distractions would be seen as a big road block.

There is no information at this stage what incident led to Slater???s arrest with Kangaroos offcials looking into the reported arrest. fanatix will have more details as they come to light.
