Any of you older blokes got advice re rotator cuff shoulder issues? Bloody annoying as only 4 years since surgery on both shoulders (acromion decompression with tendon repairs/bone spurs removed/AC joint excission 15mm). Been meticulous with rotator cuff excercises, pec stretching etc as per physio's recommendations- got to the point where I'm considering hanging up the boards.......

No you don't go hanging up your boards,I've got a few mates who have surfed as long as me,they are 55 + still ripping on shortboards all have had operations some worked first others took another operation, do your research and never give up.

Got the same problem mate, partial torn rotor cuffs ,can't paddle or swim bloody annoying , from lifting mountain bike above head, real easy to do . i'm doing as much research as possible , now got start of frozen shoulder, had cortisone treatment , side effects insomnia , now a grumpy old c....t apparently.. if you find a good physio /doctor let me know , its vital to get the right advice. My doctor is useless no follow up just wants the coin . another doctor gave me a range of exercises to do , no health insurance /income is making this an expensive injury...

Key is finding the right doc, if I'd listened to the first two I would have been nearly 20k out of pocket with outcomes with little hope of full recovery. The right doc without knowing what the previous two had me doing suggested the complete opposite exercises and explained why what I was doing was never going to improve things, if fact it was inflaming the situation. He operated leaving me only 1.5k poorer and feeling better than I have for a very long time.

Hey Guys Gillligan here

listen up

ive got a c3 compression neck , rotator cuff injury both sholders, rsi arms and hands, and tennis elbow right arm.

Now I'm a trady of 55.

What I have found is muscley im fine but the damage is in the tendons. I regularly see a massage therapist that works on my tendons using ACTIVE REALEASE THERAPY. No opps and ive got another 5 years work. I surf traditional and hp long boards twice a week at least.

This guy was a massage therapist for my local NRL club now retired. So find out if your local NRL club massage therapist can advise of someone to help. Keeps me going

keep the vibe............

I'd be booking an appointment with Vander's surgeon mate! ... Worth the effort of a trip to the Goldie if you ask me!

Gilligan seems to have good advice too!
