Drone pilot pisses off Lunada Bay locals !

Despite its proximity to downtown LA, Lunada Bay is one of the most localized breaks in California.

Guarding their wave, the locals have been known to throw rocks and heavy vibes to outsiders.

So where's the last place you want to take your new drone out for a surf recon mission?

Anywhere but Lunada Bay.

Yet for some reason this pilot buzzed the beach, well within striking range of a group of log riding locals standing on the beach.

Obviously perturbed, one of the guys picks up a softball-sized rock and comes within inches of taking out the drone.

Can't say I'm glad he missed.

Good find SA. I always wondered what that place looked like and what all the fuss was all about Dam good throw first off though. Some of the comments are interesting

eg. The bay locs are a bunch of diaper wearing trust fund babies who think they own the break. These punks wouldnt last a sec.in South Bay S.D.
I agree so newt time I see these log riding pussys come to newport I'll be just as welcoming
Sorry Terri, No sympathy, For Lunada Bay Dick Heads.
Looked to me like the surfer was trying change out of wet suit while being filmed..decent reason to be pissed.
Surfed there a bunch. Almost all the locals CAN'T SURF. They are all transplants.
Not Lunada Bay, Probably not yesterday, surf was better yesterday at this spot.

And how I wish this would happen

They need to have a Lower's style raid on that place. Pool toys, mats and wrestling masks

Not a bad first effort with the stone...
Is it true with the drones that the user will need casa certification?

It is my understanding that if you are doing professional work this is the case. If you are a hobbyist then at present there is nothing required - but please use common sense. I love our one but it could definitely be a weapon in the wrong hands.

I find it funny that you guys have to worry about this kind of stuff, would never get booked for it in Tassie!

What kind of drones is everyone using? Using for filming or just a bit of fun? I would love a DJI phantom and upgrade it!

We got the phantom 2 ,teacake my sons right into his photography videoing, part of his uni degree and works in the field so this thing will be a bonus for his passion. I'm sure I'll be posting a good surf clip once he gets the hang of it.

no to sure that's right in qld- been a fair bit about in the local rags. some one crashed one and there was a stink about it with the authorities getting involved.

A great little thing hey?

I would love one! I wonder if you can upgrade these to get better range out of them.

WIll do some more follow up on this tom. But the last time I checked pre-xmas I was still fine to fly it.

Mac - send your son down to see Piros - he has done lots of work on refining his setup.

Had a drone follow me along a wave about a month ago...WTF I thought it was a massive dragonfly at first as my distance eyesight is not the best, anyway I don't like being "buzzed" while out there in the Zone....Kind of felt like I'd been violated in some way.....LOL
