Hey guys n gals flying over from the west for a wedding and quickish road trip for 4-5 days. Would be great to check out some local spots for kiting and surfing. As we're time constrained won't be able to explore too much so any info would be great. PM me if you want to keep spot location on the lowdown.

Also looking at buying a board in the Gold Coast, can anyone recommend a good retailer? I'm looking for 7'2 or 7'4 mini mal with a bit of volume probably an epoxy

Cheers
Mark

Hi Mark - for epoxy boards on the Goldy would suggest you contact/visit:

Board Culture - gold coast hwy, Mermaid beach, (speak to Mark) and

Surf Fx - ferry rd, Southport. (speak to Ian or Michael)

both excellent, honest retailers with good range of stock.

Don't forget the classic spot of Broken Head. If the sand is good and there is some swell that place is insane!! And even if there is neither of them its one of the most beautiful spots in Australia I reckon. Love it. Well worth a drive to check out.

If you are going to surf those Nossa points make sure you are there before first light and race around the track.........that way u will get a car park and hopefully some waves before the rest of the crew arrive. When I was up there in June I paddled out at Tea Tree whilst it was still dark and there were already 4 in the water!!!!!!! Farrrrrrrrrrk me. My GF thought I was mad leaving the accom at 4:30am but when she came round to find me later on she could see why. Hope you get some swell.

Cheers Mac & Billboard i'm in contact with Mark from board culture now.
Ted, thanks for the advice i'll be up early no doubt and hopefully staying close to the breaks as we've hired a campervan

How's the water this time of year, will a half wetty cut the mustard?

Mate throw in a short john or springy - if you get a blowy westerly you will be thankful for it. Some of the local crew here are well padded and don't need the neoprene for warmth - I on the other hand feel the cold and was very comfy this morning in my springy. (oops, no offence to asea who was out in boardies only )

I actually wore a springy this morning to protect me from the beating that asea and his cronies were threatening to give me if I didn't f-off and take my sup with me
It was actually very handy to protect from serious sand rash in the shorey - way tooooooo much fun

Not sure - asea said he was going to come but I didn't get to meet him. I was looking out for an angry little purple dude with an NSP under his arm but didn't spot him. (can't believe he traded his Mct on an nsp - thought you guys hated them)

Stop it,Chrispy you couldn't /didn't trade a mct for an NSP,if so I know a good doctor.

Asea,is very trustworthy and has never lead me the wrong way to date so it stands your a ripper mate.

BB,I think Chrispy has a bloody good nose on him,so maybe he smelt a sup from afar.

I surf underneath the radar when on a sup in a shortboard zone so even the chrispy critter wouldn't know I was there

Yeah nice little waves hey. I only ate it once in the shorey so I was very very happy about that I tell ya (I think if I'd stayed out any longer it may have been a different story tho)

Its not epic here by any means but this morning we scored waist high left and right punchy little peelers for a couple of hours and the best part : - only a 20mtr paddle out - now that's what I like

Mate, I could happily surf 2ft beachies every day for the rest of my life - no stress, not too many shortboarders, no real floggings in the shorey and more waves than you could ever catch in a lifetime - I love small surf and try to get as much time in the water as I can when it's small and gentle cos as much as I do like the occasional big bomb I really don't recover well from the inevitable beatings Hey, thats why I so miss shippies mate - hours and hours of big, soft fun lefts and the nicest people I have ever surfed with

Anyone got any experience with Takayama's? I came across a tuflite 7' 22" 2 7/8" round nose. I'm Comparing that to an MR similar dimensions point nose though
Cheers

The scorpion is an insane board in tuflite - really depends on what you want to do with the board. The MR is also a great board although more suited to bigger waves for a bigger surfer, whereas the scorpion is really a fun allrounder for up to head high surf.
If I was a shortboarder I would go the MR - however for me as a longboarder I would take the scorpion in a heartbeat as it will handle everything from ankle to head high surf and trims and noserides well for a lighter surfer and really goes hard off the tail when you want to unleash it on a nice big open face.

Scorpions rock !

What I meant to say is, glad to hear your thoughts on the scorpion, I want one.
Unfortunately or furtunately depending on how you look at it, the missus and I are saving our pennies for a trip to Europe in May, so a new board is not going to happen soon , but the scorpion seems to be the way to go.

Some of us have a little more "insulation" than others. I can go in a rashie while my son will be shivering in a Springy
