Bit harsh - couldn't we have said it resembles a step deck rail and share some love and stoke.

You want harsh...post a pic of a noserider and ask Roy for his opinion of it.
You want stoke...go surf that noserider.

The rail channels have been around for a while, the usual reason given for them is for strength, which didn't impress me much as it's kind of debatable whether or not they do add strength.

Recently though because I've been adding thickness to the longer boards for big wave paddle power hand grip on the rails has been an issue. So yesterday I was chatting with Jamie Sterling about a board for him and asked him if the channels ( I think he's riding Stretch boards) are helpful for hand grip on thicker boards and he said yes that's one of the main reasons for them... so i was straight off to the shaping zone to add some to the ten footer I'm doing. I thought they'd be hard to get right but they worked out really well, and I think that they look neat as well. So, thanks to JS for the advice.

Have you had the Guns out or is the mid length distraction still going on?

I've been head down tail up making them, and finishing off an 8 footer. The first of the new guns ( a ten foot asym, that's the one with the rail channels) is ready for glassing today).

We now have four big wave riders lined up to do some test riding, and an Indiegogo campaign to fund it coming up, so I'll have my work cut out that's for sure.

I just realised that i spent five hours shaping the bottom side of the rail and doing final tweaks to the nose and tail.... and here's me thinking that shaping foam would be quicker.

Three or four days to shape one board... and my glassing is similarly slow wtf.

I just can't imagine mowing 5 boards a day, can't wrap my head around it at all.

Not sure whether to be happy or sad about this, I'll have to go for happy I suppose.

I don't know Roy it just looks wrong. You seem to have all the skills. The rails look like they are finished off nice. Have you got any picks of a conventional gun you've knocked up.

I won't be bothering with conventional guns, they don't work very well in several respects.

These are a new paradigm, and I'll be making a lot more of them in different variations.

Of course they look different, try imagining them moving over and through the water.

I don't know Bob personally but he's seems like an incredibly enthusiastic fellow, and he's certainly been a long term innovator.

Do you find that with less surface area in the tail, that they sink deeper into the wave?

Would this slow the board down?

I would imagine that the tail shape allows for water to have a longer rail area to speed off from however would this be negated by the decrease in area/lack of buoyancy?

Maybe if you stepped on the tail, but my understanding is Roy's boards are designed to be navigated from the middle.

"My take on the board is that you have to know how to ride large boards or it is going to take you a while to adjust and figure out how to make it work. The board was a work of art and it must have taken a lot of time and skill to make it. It has a cool flexy ride that I have never felt before and does work well in clean surf. The paddle speed is very good and it connects sections well- twangs through the flat spots. On the drops it goes very fast and feels like the tail planes up out of the water the faster you go. Well my post had a quote with high praise and what I thought was an good independent explanation of how the tail works so your comment shouldn't be aimed at me.
If you go to page 13 of the thread I linked you'll see my only comment and it's a positive one expressing that it was a shame it came to such an end.
You probably don't realise it if this is the only surfing forum you read but the board has since been re-built so don't get too het up about that pic.
Roy took its initial demise with a calmness that suprised his detractors.

There's no agenda or hating, the board discussed ended up like this...which is a shame.
