I spent the arvo watching the Sydney Swans vs North Melbourne kangaroos playing in Hobart Tasmania.

Tassie, why isnt there a Tassie team in the comp when every other state is involved. Is there any noises about a team being entered, seems a mighty injustice when I know it is a very popular sport down under.

Tassie have been trying to get a team in for years, the afl have decided to throw money at nsw & qld teams to push afl in those states as they are rugby states where as tassie has always been Aussie rules.tassie has always supplied top players to the other states but there is no way we will have a team in the near future unless a team relocates down here, the only reason we have hawthorn and north play roster games here is because the state government throws shed loads of money at these clubs and they can't afford not to play here with the deal they are getting.there was even a senate inquiry a few years ago about why we didnt have our own team, can't remember the outcome though.

riverrider has answered it pretty well plus there is the slight problem here of north tassie and south tassie hating each other and infighting over where the team should be based ,
also I thinkgetting the big corporate backing required these days has probably given the gold coast and sydney the jump on tassie with the latest expansion

crazy though Stuk there should be a team here for sure, AFL is a religion down here , game day everyone flies there team flags

I think the only way we will get a team is if it looks like a Melbourne could will go under and they can get them to relocate down here, the afl recon they heve the right amount of teams now and one extra will give them a bye.

RR - more teams= more games = more TV revenue......thats there usual modus operandi....but maybe they have reached critical mass. Tassie needs a large corp to get behind them - what / who are the options? Would Tassie support a relocation team? I know that in the NRL it never really works. This years success story in the A League has been unbelievable and I think it all comes down to the fact that the community owns the team and feels like they had a big part in it. They helped select the name, the team colours etc The potential fans were incorporated from day one. It has to a blueprint for others to follow one would think.
