Jumping on the bigger board wagon as I drove past the coast when it was pumping and boardless, had to hire a mal that I had an absolute ball on! Does not matter I ended up late to a function I enjoyed it so much I'm sticking with it. The question is, do I go fixed or with a fin box? Any difference between the two oh wise hip longboarding crew on here?

While a fixed fin board by a reputable shaper can be a cool thing (one would imagine that he knows exactly where to place it) I think it's more practical to have a box for personal adjustment and transportation etc...unless you've tried out a board and found it perfect.

Even Billy T has been quoted as saying many a good board has been spoilt with a fixed fin

What surfbroker said,The look of a classic log with a fixed fin is to die for imo.I was going to fix a fin in my log but I/we are putting in a GG fin and if its no good I can swap it can't do that with a glassed in fin.

Agreed with the above wisdom... I've been really enjoying experimenting with different fins on the Hot Log, loving the pivot on small days to turn and hit the nose (try to that is ) but then the alkali Thomas for bigger waves with a nice wall for big lazy carves, got one of those big rake fins being foiled for me atm so can't wait to give her a run.

Awesome to hear your on the log wagon, so much fun broo

1000s if not 10,000s of boards where ruined by glassed in fins...

They look cool but there's a reason the invented boxes.

If you have:

>full beard
>Own a vintage American car, preferably some sort of van, even better if it's still left hand drive
>Enjoy drinking an obscure brand of beer, even if it tastes like cats piss
>Wear clothing from an unknown lable, especially if it can be proven to have been hand made by the mother of a serial killer in a rusty tin shed somewhere in the middle of the Louisiana swamps
> Wear sunglasses with oversized frames

Then a glass on fin is most definitely the way to go.

If you're normal, get a fin box.
