Every board I have ever had has suffered severe pressure dings, is this cos of the way i jump on the board or get up to take off? I cannot think of anyother way to get back on my board without putting hands on the rails?

I know they dont affect the board was just wondering If I could prevent my boards from looking like they have been through a street brawl.

What you’re talking about pertains to the compressive modulus of the foam/core of a surfboard. Generally speaking the higher the density of foam used the greater the compressive modulus and the harder to dent. I can't remember what the red PU foam is I think its somewhere around 12lbs (some one can correct that) if you compare that to a deck of a boat where people are jumping up and down that would have 80kg/m³foam.

There's a couple way around it - you can put a heavier glass job on and it will help a little bit but your still going to dent the board because you're hoping the glass disperses the point loads from your hand/knee/foot/hip.

Or buy a board that uses the technology that surftech/firewire use where the lower density eps core is wrapped in a higher density core (I believe they use 60kg/m³) or buy a board with a wood veneer wrapped over it.

Case point is a guy I work with is a bit heavy handed when he gets up his rails look like they've where beaten with a baseball bat, he's had a fire wire for a year now and there's some small shallow pressure dents on it but its nothing like his previous board.

i always get a depreashion where my knee is from paddling and duckdiving, and also from my heels and walking, but never on my rails. i have all my boards glassed with double 6oz top and bottom and get the lapps on the rails widened for extra strenght. it would be strange to collaspe rails due to the fact that that is the only place on the board where the glass is doubled up. also if you ride a non cured board that can sometimes not help the cause. i have never owned a surftech type board, so i dont know anything about them, but the ones i have ridden felt very corky, like you cant sink a rail does that have something to do with the foam used, and how boyant they seem to be

Cheers for the advice guys, the dents are usually about 50mm from the edge due to the duckdiving/knee/foot issue. May just have to try and take it easy on them. I have heard the F/B is a tough board so it may have just been a thinner glass job on my Murray Smith 7'2 Hybrid?

Guess time will tell, it doesnt affect my surfing just can look a little rough.
