Here's a rambling story from today.... about uncrowded waves and unlawful road closures....

A tri-athalon was organised in Torquay for today, with significant road closures on the east side of town on The Esplanade, and the roads all the way through to Breamlea and Point Impossible were shut.

I had know this was going to happen, and I was secreting hoping there would be waves at Point Impossible, so I could invent ways to get through road closures. Sure enough there were waves.... So for me, like a red rag to a bull, I just had to get through the road closures.

Closure Check Point 1, getting out of the estate - the girl operating it told me I can't go that way. I told her I was going to Breamlea to see my Dad. She didn't even know where Breamlea was !! So when she started talking to the car behind me, I just drove on through.

Closure Check Point 2, junction of Horseshoe & Blackgate - I thought this was going to be easy, until I got close. Heaps of barricades, and even Police presence. They ask me where I'm going. I say the same thing. They give me a motorcycle escort. I'm through !!

Point Impossible - 2 foot waist high peelers, for 3 hours. 1-3 people in the water. Not bad hey !!

In 3 hours, only 4 cars made it though. Or should I say, only 4 cars were clever enough to use similar stories to mine. One guy told them he left his wetsuit there last night, and he was going back to get it! He got through.

Road Closures - Can I just say I hate lycra clad cycling woofters, especially when their race organisers can pay off council to create such heavy road closures. But as it turned out, it worked in my favour. So should I still hate them???

As a Torquay resident, I pay my taxes, I pay car registration, council fees, etc. Why should I be excluded from Point Impossible & Breamlea for 8 hours?? But as I said.... it was like a red rag to bull.... Only "hell & high water" was going to stop me from getting to this point break, on this day !!

Plan B - was going to be really simple for me... Drive to the Nudist Beach Carpark, and walk maybe 700 metres to the surf...

We were laughing about the fact that the carpark resembled a Ghost Town !!

As I got out, after a big fill of waves.... One guy is about to ask me to help zip him up. But I asked him first, "How did you get through?".
He say's back to me, "How did you get through?".
I'm thinking to myself, is there an echo around here, or is this guy a parrot?
So I say to him with a smile, "nah, I asked you first!", whilst thinking you can't answer a question with a question !!

He actually told them he lived down there. So it was clearly really easy to get through, you just had to have "local aspect" to your story / lie !! Because they can not lawfully keep you away from your home !!

Then he asked for a "zip up". I said, "enjoy!!" as he trundled off to entirely EMPTY lineup !! Yes empty! Not even 1 surfer in the water for a short time.

Like a red rag to a bull !!

So there you go.... rambling short stories !!
