Taken this morning by Muz at Sprout Daily.....not much you can really say is there? Ahhhh the joys of the early morning start and the warmer weather = crowds = yuck! Glad it was not like that this morning for me It could have been the Goldie but they had wetsuits on and it could have been Victoria but it was a beachie and not a nice long point, it could have been WA but with all their secret spots there is no way that many would have been at one spot so it has to be.......Manly........I wish he had carried the sequence on!

I hear ya Ted. When I had my first surf in 17 years last month, I wondered where did all these people come from ? It wasn't that crowded in the late 80's. I think we need to stop breeding or the government need to build more beaches.
I think that comes under infrastructure.

just re-looking at that photo and it looks like it is all the older guys who should know better breaking the decency rules - no wonder ever one else is doing it when the ones who should no better do not!!!!

Nope, not me, I was at Collaroy onthe Diverse, with about 6 others and no drop ins were seen. Just one "too cool to wear a leg rope, but can't control my board type" made sure he got a wide berth..... No dings for the new baby....

Manly is good, but you can never get away from the crowds when the summer heats up.... And yes, those who should know better are the worst offenders, because they usually only go out for a greedy three waves in quick succession, then stand around on the beach talking about how good they are. Woops, I said that out loud didn't I.......

Bloke on the left of screen - Why didn't he go right?
Second from the left - Why is he even going?
Guy paddling on the right - Why is he still paddling ?

October November is a time when the water in Sydney often at its coldest.

The coldest water I ever surfed in was a few years back in december in the days leading up to Xmas.

But that was an unusual year, there was a phenomenon called "Eckman Transport" happening. ( not sure I got that spelling right).

you were close OB - its Ekman Transport! A very interesting concept.....We get loads of cold water over here on the east coast because of it - due to the consistent northerly winds in the summer months we get water transport away from the coast (it travels approximately at 90 degrees to the left of the wind surface direction here in the southern hemisphere - opp in the north) so as the surface water moves away the colder / deeper water rises and thats why its cold!! Its all because the earth rotates - water on the surface is deflected by the wind and naturally wants to flow from the high side to the low side - the Coriolis effect. Works opp in the north to the south but not on the equator....the Ekman Spiral measures the way in which the wind driven ocean currents vary with depth - and the net movement of water due to this is the Ekman Transport.
