Went for a surf off 2nd Ave at Burleigh this morning.
Haven't surfed much since a body-boarder died at Greenmount while I was surfing in the first week of January. Having to walk past the clubbies madly giving CPR, then how long it took for an ambulance to arrive really disturbed me.
While surfing this morning, there was an obvious search and rescue/retrieve going on. Selfishly though 'not again'.
But returned to the thought of the missing persons friends and family.
Heard in the line-up that it was someone that had gone to the aid of a fisherman last night. Someone getting lost at sea is never good, but it's seemingly more challenging when it's someone that's gone to the aid of someone else.

While this isn't about me, I got home to emails and text messages suggesting that the missing person is indeed someone I knew quite well.... although not confirmed.
Regardless of who has gone missing, can everyone cross their fingers etc that the missing person is found alive, as unlikely as that may be as time ticks on?
And thoughts to friends and family of whoever the poor soul is that is currently missing.

Never good reading or hearing of a missing person or one that has passed away.
Fingers crossed he is found safe and well.

Reports are saying that whomever is missing, their car was 'found nearby' last night (and that it was a '35 year old Southport man'.. so it would seem that they have an idea who it is?)
Hoping that whoever it was lost their keys in the surf and caught a bus home, and have been busy all day at work... even if it's a longshot.

Sadly, body has been found and identified. Granted, better a body found than not.

Not that it really matters, especially given this was someone that died trying to help someone else, but it was the person I knew.

He was a Dr that fled Iraq (I'm sure it was Iraq, but could have been somewhere else in the Middle-East) and came here to do a PhD, which is how I got to know him.

Great guy - would've gone in the water to help someone without hesitation.
