This might sound a bit cold but I would like to know what he is/was worth?!? Im sure his family will be fine. A state funeral is a bit rich as well imo, he was a footballer, a good one at that and he started charities etc but he dosnt deserve a state funeral.

My Dad has cancer and he is a good bloke and an awesome Dad, will he get a state funeral as well, I wouldnt think so

Yeah i know what you are saying , not cold imo but Cancer treatment isn't cheap mate & he's had plenty over the years, The state funeral isn't the families wish to grant , it's been bestowed by the Vic Govt (who knows how govts think I don't)
he did a lot of charity work I do know mate as you say - still wouldn't mind a beer up there at the gates though

Edit - and as I've said to you before , I hope ya dad makes a full recovery mate - I was also adopted at birth and I know what it means btw

I'm in the adopted club as well. Birth Mum was 18 when I popped out in 1971 which was a time when having babies out of wedlock was taboo and she put me up. I was raised by 2 fabulous people who I always proudly called Mum and Dad and never saw them as my adoptive parents. They were just Mum and Dad to me.
Sadly Dad passed away in 98 and Mum is going great guns up the Sunshine Coast.

Cheers pup. It takes more then the same blood to be a good parent. My folks gave me everything I needed but not everything I wanted which made me the person I am today. 40 years young, married for 15 years this Nov and three loving kids (turning 8,10,12) and been running my own business for 18 years. Happy as a pig in sh1t. hope all well with ya Dad. I never spoke to anybody about being adopted. I know some people knew - just never opened up til now. Fark and I have only had 2 beers.

Gough whitlam declined a state funeral for his wife. Not sure why. Guess the family could decline it for Jim.

Being from NSW, never really knew a whole lot about him but did he play 244 games straight... That is unbelievable, I'm guessing he was a tough bastard.

Good luck to your dad doggie. Cancer is a mother f. R.
