This was a long, long time ago, but I lost my specs in Kuta once and I could not find any decent optometrists in Bali, even in Denpasar. They were good people, but their equipment is inferior to what we have. I tried one near the more commercial side of Kuta (walking distance from the mall), and they just couldn't grind the lens thin enough without it cracking. They were kind enough to give me a full refund. I also tried a small shop in Denpasar (had to pay the bus driver a few dollars to be driven around looking), and again they couldn't match my prescription (brought it with me from here). Of course that's me, so in your case if you don't have a astigmatism you could get lucky. I was going for a set of specs that would have cost me no more than $50 all up including lens and frame! And they had good range to choose from too.

My advice is to get prescriptions from Hong Kong via some online shops they have. Just send them your prescription, what frame, options, etc and voila - cheapest $200 I've ever spent on glasses.

I got 3 pairs from China they were made in 20 minutes and I chose Ray Ban frames which they said were made in the same factory as Ray Bans, they said they could make up to15 % of production to be knock offs to be sold at markets, so they said, all 3 pairs have broken within a year but I'm hard on my glasses but at 60 bucks a pair.

my lady is -7.5 and -6.5 in her two eyes - she got some made at the Discovery Mall (on the ground floor left hand side about half way down) 18 months ago and is more than happy with them - and she is super fussy ! They worked out about 1/3 the price in Sydney. I got some new lenses in mine frames in Bangkok earlier this year for $80 AUD. They did a great job.
