Occasional Pin Review (Number 3)
Without a doubt, this is a great example of a 1 board quiver...
A board built with quality point breaks in mind.
9'6 x 22 1/2 x 3 1/8 - and about 8 kilos - heavier glassing than say an EvoII (Volane)

Big, Medium, and Small waves, it is a joy to ride.
The main feature is the striking pin tail, and you have 2 option on cut backs;
1) Long drawn out smooth cut backs; and
2) Fairly long smooth drawn out cut backs
But if that's the way you like to surf, no sweat, it is a sweet board.

Small Stuff - enough volume to get in early, and subtle Vee all the way through allows you to surf and wiggle it from up the front. Very fast down the line. Can jam in some quick stall cutties amongst the bigger longer cutties. Excels at gentle floaters. Plus, as a single fin, it's very fast down the line (no side fin drag). Glide speed / trim speed is amazing.

Medium Surf - the curvy rocker and Vee really allows this board to handle well in the pocket, and I've also managed to thread through a few little tubes. You can stand on the tail to stall, combined with some heel & teo action to get back deep in the pocket.

The bigger stuff - paddles in early, and flies down the line. Did I mention long cutbacks earlier!? The pin tail handles the juice!

Warning Number 1 - the pin tail and the half-heavy glassing really smoothes things out. Not overly suitable to beginners, due to weight and general cost of one of Bob's hand-shapes. Compliments an EvoII really nicely. If you have your EvoII wired, and are looking for a 2nd board, then something like this would be a very good option. Helps greatly if you are spending time in good quality waves.

Warning Number 2 - this style board is addictive, like surfing.

It's probably just in reference to it no necessarily being your "Go-To" Board.
Even though it has been my "Go-To" board for a while now.

I love them mate I must have gone in there 3 or 4 times and drooled over them I love the straight lines and just one colour heres a cool little story from MCT blog

I must confess that all through my shaping career I've had a fondness for Classic Pintails. Ever since I stowed away to Hawaii in 1963, my eye fell on sweet balsa guns shaped by George Downing, Bob Shepherd and Dick Brewer. Classic Pintail template. I've discussed the templates in detail with George and Dick, and here's the secret: The first template George made was between two coconut trees on Waikiki. A piece of string, a pencil stretched against it, and slowly walk the arc. Result? A sweet Pintail. That was in 1949.

Every now and then, I just grab a blank and hand-sketch a Pintail template on it, and enjoy the feeling of seeing a Classic Pintail emerge from the foam as I power-plane away into the blank. Here's one I did two weeks ago. It will surf anything, and very well indeed. Flat panelled slight vee, single-fin Classic Pintail.

You know what, a 9'6 Single Fin "Cruiser" model would probably be of similar ilk.

I like the look of this one.

I just picked up a Robert August, What I Ride, in the dimensions given by you guys in the lusting thread.

If I lose the Evo II this could replace it in the rack with this and the missis would only see the same number on the wall!!

I always think my misses won't notice a small change/re-shuffle of boards... But I always seem to come unstuck. Either notices me loading it in, or even catches me ogling the new addition...

.... ahhhhh well what you have to do is sweep the fine lady up off her feet and carry her across the glass threshold into the mancave - place her gently gently upon or in front of said new love and then ogle piece of pish
