well been talking to a few local long boarders who have grey hair and considerable knowledge on the topic of long boarding, they always after giving me 30min lecture on how to do a certain maneuver because "back in their day they had 100lbs 12ft longboards and they know how to ride them bla bla bla".

Which brings me to my next point considering there are a few gentlemen on here with grey hair.

they all recommend watching surfing docos from the 60's and 70's to pick up on techniques and maneuvers

other than the hot generation, morning of the earth, endless summer, limits of pure fun and other mainstream classics. Does anyone know of any more worth looking out for?

cheers

You meant "Inner Most Limits or Pure Fun", by George Greenough!

Have you seen Crystal Voyager, also by George.

Have you seen Pacific Vibrations? This one is a real trip! LSD laced!! Awesome soundtrack too. Great fun to watch when really drunk!

The inner most limits of pure fun was a good one.Evolution was another good one with Wayne Lynch stealing the show. A bit further down the track was Free Ride and Storm Riders. Liked them too.

it wasn't so corny back then smh....I can remember sitting in the front row of the Kensington Doncaster theater with a bunch of mates and Bruce was doing the whole east coast with slippery when wet or it may have been barefoot adventure...he didn't have a sound track he ran the speel and then bolted down to the stage and narrated the whole movie himself...he was even at the door to take your ticket...complete one man show...we were starved for any surf movie then so it was an incredible treat to see....we would walk from there to maroubra and sleep on the beach so we could be into it at dawn...very heady days...as far as learning manoeuvres from those movies, I dont think so....modern longboarding is so much better....the old movies are great to learn style...if you didnt have style on the old heavy boards you went nowhere

I reckon just watch Joel Tudor... Maybe some clips of skip and possibly Tyler, he rides heavy old school boards better than most.

It probably wasn't back then but a mate lent me a box set with about 6 movies in it and I could only watch a bit at a time but some great footage of guys like Phil Edwards , Dora and the early Hawaiian footage. The 60's stuff was a bit before my time but I ve got a mate from Cronulla who is in his 60's and he reckons the crowd used to go berserk at those old surf flicks so I can imagine they would have been memorable days. Not knocking Bruce Brown because he made a lot of surf flicks but I find turning the sound down an easy option.
I can remember going to see surf movies at the opera house but that was late 70's
As for those heavy boards you can't cheat on them.
I guess that's why you see guys buying these old school boards and selling them. They're a lot harder to ride than the modern boards?
