Now to all you long boarders, thats referring to people that own and ride longboards, not to peeps that had one for i week 5 years ago

Now How many of you guys are surfing say sub 7' boards NOW.

i know some are thinking ,,,,,, fark'n cobra piss taking & sh!t stirring and Hissssssssssssssssss'n

Please im not taking the piss, i would like to know
i don't know everybody in here so share the vibe with us and help feel the vibe of the greenroom

maybe something like your,, age ,,where you surf ,,,how many short boards,,, how long you've been surfing for,
whats your percentage,, maybe you're 10 % longboarding 80% shortboard 10% other.

i know blokes like TC in here are about 19yo into short boards long longboards and so on…
i know lurkers are going to say nothing and short boarders are going to tell you what they have (no this is not a fark off Sboarders)
but i think it would be nice to know how many long boarders in here do both.
we get plenty of threads in here on mids and now shorts and thats fine and i have and will continue to take the piss
but thats all in fun and no harm intended.

cheers

Ok I will bite.

Generally speaking 5% LB 95% Shorties. Recently with this seemingly endless run of crap waves its probably more like 35/65 sadly. Not saying I do not like the LB but where I live I normally surf beachies or sucky reefs - waves that do not extract the best out of a LB. There is a point here but its boring most of the time.

I have 2 longboards and 7 shorties. Presently renovating the quiver and it will soon be 3 shorties and 1 LB - within a few weeks. Probably been surfing 25yrs. Although did spend 5 yrs in London so only surfed a handful of times a year.

I have 2 long boards, a 9'0 n a 9'1, also a 10'5 n 8'2 sup and an 8 foot mini Mal. Looking at another around 7 foot for dumpier days when mals are a bit big for me to handle.. I'd say I'm prob 50/50 between mals n sups mainly cause I surf around bundaberg so don't have the luxury of decent surf very often...I'm 35 n been surfing since around 15 but only every week for last couple of years since stopping other sports...

Almost 43yo, started surfing at 8yo...I currently have 7 boards, but ones really just a relic

I generally surf 2 spots most of the time. A short little left beachy below about 1.2m swell & a fat kinda lengthy left reefy a couple of mins away when its over 1.2m (barely breaking).

My main boards are;
6'0 x 20.75 x 2.5 with very little rocker (ECS Bulldog)
6'2 x 19.75 x 2.5 with little rocker but late kick in the nose (HS Psychedelic Germ)
9'3 Clearwater LB

& a 666 for under waist that I sold today.

Most of the year I will pack the first 3 boards in the car, unless I know its tiny or big.

Tiny I'll just take the LB & 666, big I'll only take the 2 SB's.

Just bought a new 666 today that is for up to waist high at the reefy which replaced a 10'6 boat with a 8'5. Hopefully it has some glide...

I was thinking about this the other day for myself.

Since getting back into the game, Im finding that my 10' 2 Longboard isn't quite long enough and might be considering it to BE my "short board", go figure that one out.

Im 6' 2 and Im find that two steps up to the end of the board and I've run out of room with with nowhere else to go but back or over the edge.

So yes my Longboard is fast becoming my shortboard.

.... but what does that make my 7' 8? But at this stage I use the 10 footer 100% of the time as Im loving the feeling the wave and running up and down the board.

Sooooooooo some time this year I might be looking at getting a custom job to suit my wants better. But that's a whole different topic as I would have a clue as to where to look on who to ask.

(Since I just got the wifey an new 7' 10 mini mal it might not be a too hard a task to justify, I hope).....

Me, surfing just on 4yrs

2 longboards (1 I have not ridden for 2yrs it loves big walls and we have not has some for a while, 1, I would ride once a week)
1 mid length (ride it maybe once a month)
6'8" shortboard ride used to ride this 80% of time
6'4" shortboard (for under 3ft)..........picked it up today....rode it this afternoon....it rocks.....I think i will be spending some time on this one

So, spend mot of the time on shorties (80%) as most of the surfing is shore breaks.

Yeah beachies the 5'8 is a quad mini simmons I shaped from an old 8' board ,its pretty wide but just over 2" thick, going to rip glass off again and pull the tail in as it tracks way too much, might be quad placement I Dunno?

51, surfing since 79. Learnt on my brothers Crozier slab kneeboard at Maroochydore. Went down to Sydney to go to Uni and soon started riding regular boards.
A Pipedreams six channel pintail 5'10' provided a steep learning curve. Cool thing about living there (Bondi) was the exposure to McCoy lazor zaps and then Simon Anderson's Energy thrusters. I really wish I'd kept both of them but as a poor uni student it was a one board quiver with the current board having to go to finance its replacement.
Don't currently own a longboard but I've had quite a few over the years in-between 9-10' in various shapes and constructions.
Quiver ranges from a 4'2" More twinzer paipo (fibreglass), Firewire Tomo nano 6'2", Pacer quad fish 6'3", DVS Wasp quad fish 6'3", Beachbeat quad roundtail (think NPJ quartet planshape) 6'6", MR flying fish 6'6", Firewire Addvance 6'8", Woosley Vquad 7'6".
My board selection is in a constant state of flux simply to keep my interest and see what else is out there and where it will take me on a wave face.
Wouldn't mind another longboard but usually pick one up during small winter periods.
Last winter I found the 7'6" could still give me a good ride in all but the tiniest of days.

straight rail syndrome

Yeah you could be right, rails too straight on a wide board, those vanguards have very parallel rails too but I imagine nowhere as wide as this, love recycling old boards, for better or for worse.

I'm a 52yo Queenslander started surfing as a 10yo surfing is a lifestyle and a sport for me.
I've shortboarded most of the east coast australia from Lorne VIC to five rocks QLD, i missed north of Budgewoi to Yamba ….hopefully one day.
today i surf 60% longboard 40%666.
i don't surf short boards anymore for the same reasons as Mac + my back is sh!thouse for long paddles.
a lot of my time was involved in the golf but now the back is an issue,,,,,but with that loss I'm starting to spend more time surfing.

100% Longboard...2 Logs, 1 single fin HP & 1 Quad HP
And that's the trick.....great performance difference between the boards.....it's all LB for me, the Quad is GREAT Fast, quick turns & still nose rides.
Buying boards is against my religion but I'm thinking about buying a newy......a Quad, don't have the room to make any now

We have a large LB community up this way and they love it. I just prefer the other waves Would love to live somewhere like Stuk and have access to his local - the LB would get much more of a workout.

Funny thing just srtuck me reading this thread when guys mention their age I realised that I started surfing in '62 & I'm now 62yo, go figure. Havn't been without a board all that time. "My" longboard is an 8' miller powerglide, then a 7'5" powerglide & a 7' SUBX, my shortboard. I've had longer over the years & recently had a SDR 9'1" for a while but moved it on. I mainly surf Sydney beachies so 80% of the time I ride the subx then decide on the day/conditions which of the other 2 I'll ride. I keep 'em all in the van. Been having such a great time on the subx I'm going to get a 6'8" & give it go. Why a 6'8" ?? welll I looked at my age, did my gazintas, added 6+2 with the brain cell I've got left & got er ..8, yep 8 so obviously I gotta get a 6'8" even she who must be obeyed couldn't fault that logic!. So will that mean I'll have to yak/pester the shortboard guys then? ha ha.
