The five man take off and the scramble for the shoulder of a 2-3 foot wave (thus, absolutely making certain you get in the way of the surfer) are skills I desperately need to work on before I get there again.

Sad isn't it. Unfortunately in South east Queensland there are only a few places that hold a swell in a southerly wind.

Given the population and the lack of locations this is what happens.

Noosa was a bit better than that crowd wise but wasn't as big.

The only think funny about that was the backwash. Love seeing that in action. Otherwise it's a nightmare. Can not believe find it enjoyable to surf with all those people. I am surprised no one has died out there yet after having their body cut up by another board. I hope it does not happen but would not be surprised if it did. Rather surf Balina at dawn than paddle out there

you know in those crowds you really do need to get that shoulder.

the good practise be a man cop the foam hit only leaves you to face more waves with more desperate punters to run you over a lot of times

not a smart move if you like to stay in one piece.

there are a lot of peacocks out for the cameras looking for some imaginary fame out in any snapper swell

I don't know about that mac. cop that back wash just when your getting that wave would make a lot of good surfers look bad

Ferk that , why would you bother

for me going for a surf is about unwinding / destressing and having fun ,can't see too much destressing or having fun out there - great choice take off early and hit the rocks to get the wave or take off late with 20 others and cop a board in the head .

Moody music, long shots and sunrises do not an uncrowded line up make.

There's a wave at about 1.10 - a nice six footer - is that somewhere else or Snapper too?

hahaha you are right...i travel to other places when its on....BUt for all the crowds and idiot people, most of the crowd are just driftwood. Floating around doing **** all except block your path at times.......

what ****s me is a decent swell we had last year, was not huge because i was out there. It had a massive sweep and was hard work...yet our special pros and ****wits on jetskis just stole from the punters and put others in danger.

i am more concerned by that rubbish than the driftwood at snaps

To be honest, I have surfed there with 250 people and still got enough waves - I suspect a lot are tourists surfing for six months - and found the standard of surfing (across 250) pretty ordinary. That's not to say there werent a lot of people making my eyes bug though. So absolutely, most are just annoying driftwood.
And I have also experienced the converse of delightful 2-4 with surprisingly few people and a section down toward Rainbow to myself and one other bloke that then ran forever into Greenmount.

The jet skis would be horribly frustrating. But it's their wave and they deserve it don't they? Thankfully that doesn't occur here yet. Skis always go to places surfers aren't. Up north in Geraldton (where it is truly uncrowded with a whole bunch of unsurfed waves) some selfish muppets do do it. I just can't get my head around that.

I was being facetious about "their wave" and the sense of propriety.

in July I was up north surfing a barreling left with two other blokes (4-6) when a surf charter pulled up and dropped four other blokes into the lineup on the peak who then immediately snaffled waves. A jet ski then went in and towed them back out. Ripper! But the boys then waited in line and when we got waves the ski went in and collected us too. Finished up having an absolute ball with everyone getting heaps of waves and taking in turns.

That was a good use of the ski.

I saw footage of that swell at Kirra. That was the one where Morrison felt he could burn that poor bugger hey? Because it's my wave and I have done my time was his response I believe. Lol.

Never understood why people even bother surfing at metropolitan Perth beaches.

10 metre take off zone with peaky close outs. Whats the point?
