Having ridden a few longboard skateboards around 48 inches and enjoying it, I decided I'd check out what it would be like to go longer. There is a guy in California building what he calls, Hamboards, that are 6'8" x 15" that seem pretty nice, but he wants close to $800 for them.

I made my own, it's 6'1" x 12" x 1" thick, and made out of New Guinea Rosewood and Tassie Oak with some red striping and varnish. Running Orangutang 75mm x 57mm wheels on 8" Fang trucks, with a few wedges to give it a better turning circle.

Not too bad for practicing cross stepping, carving and you can even take your wife to dinner on it.

If that's too tame, how about a Mountain board? Snowboard with wheels...... But make sure you armour up, grass burns......

So, what are you doing when you're not, or can't surf?

MR that is a wonderful build - you should be proud of yourself and justifiably so!!!

Your Question ..... probably spend too much time on here but there's a few things I gotta do around the house
Mountain bike is handy , visit surf shop , do a bit of restoring work on a couple of older vehicles , drink beer I like beer

Thanks Pup, looks like you spent way too much time on here last night I just finished my 82 Harley engine rebuild, what kind of older vehicles are you talking about?

I can tell you that the rosewood board is a good looking piece of kit. A mate of ours had a go on it at the longy car park, he was stoked.

MR, I'll try to remember to put my longboard and stick in the car for you, they're just getting in the way at home and you may have something usefull to make of them.

BTW, I'm off work today and sitting down at the Roy not believing how crap a day I picked to have off.

I'll check it again in the arve and send you a text if it improves.

nice work mate. i think your board is more FUNctional than the hamboards. a mate has one and uses 10 inch original trucks. he can skate it like a surfboard in the old school concrete park we have. i do not like them...but your one...well that is nice

Pup, I used to have a mate who restored Sydney buses. He had 8 of the bastards secreted all over the place. His earliest was a 40s Albion double decker, which was a wonderful piece of kit. He had one of every bus Sydney had between 1940 and 1970 I think.

OB, you sure picked a ****e day to have off. I didn't even bother looking, but just got back from Mona Vale and looked in at the Roy and whilst you could surf it, I doubt it would be pleasant. I'd be happy to take the board and stick off you, but you really should come out on it with us!

Chrispy, just got back from buying the timber for the Olo shaped longboard. Two pieces of Jarrah that will be laminated to a piece of American White Oak. Have to wait for the wet to subside before laminating in case I get warpage. It will have 10 inch Originals and 97mm Bigfoot wheels.

I did go out in the arvo and got just the one, it was a special day and I had to say that I surfed on it.

I can't be trusted on that skate board, every time I took it out I came home with some bark missing
