No punching in NRL? I understand the intent of the rule but it just doesn't feel right.

IMO the biff has been gone from origin for a couple of years now.The NRL are way behind the times with this, look at union and afl's stance on fighting.

I like it. I just can not believe that it took so long. They can still fight - it will just cost them 10 mins. Union has been penalising the punch for a long time. My only complaint is that I wish it had come into force after Origin 2 as I would love to have seen Gallen get smashed. Alternatively I wish it had come in before Origin 1 so he could have been fairly penalised for his idiotic performance So either way you look at it I am not a fan of his - not by a long shot.

its confusing. they let a lun off scott free then say its not on.

how can they send someone off after letting that go.

set a precedent then bring the hammer down.

if there was a court case after/if someone punched in game two guess who would win.

nrl bosses are a joke

Ted Does your complaint indicate a hidden desire for 'the biff' to actually continue?

I am for the ban !

I don't understand why they can't play with aggression and passion but stay within the rules. It sets a bad example when one guy punching another is reported as a definition of toughness

Nope. To be honest I hate violence. I have never liked it. I hate it how these so called professional sports people think its ok in the 'heat of the moment' to behave like Neanderthals....I also hate drink driving.....so you can imagine how delighted I am with the NRL this week. Finally (and it has taken a very long time) someone has decided to make a stand. I hate the fact that some of these individuals that play footy are so called role-models.....the reality though is that they are - so why should they be encouraged to behave like boofheads and in doing so educate a whole bunch of young people in our society that violence is ok?

Just some thoughts. I appreciate that some people enjoy the biff - I would as well if the consequences were not so bad.

It will never get off the ground. You got young blokes playing a hard contact sport like that and someone is always going to let one go. I don't think it can be stopped. I thought it was a bit rich for Gorden Tallis to come out and have a go at Gallen when you have a look at his history. This one needs to be put into the PPPFFFTTT thread.

hhahaha god you blokes are funny
players get smashed every week,
they get their arms bent backwards deliberately
they get knocked out with swinging arms
they have their legs taken out from under them whilst kicking the ball
not to mention
shoulder charges.

Yeah its fair to say that it was rich coming from him - but his efforts were a long time ago - perhaps he is just a slow learner

This is what annoys me though

http://www.news.com.au/sport/nrl/paul-gallen-tells-schoolboys-a-punch-up-not-the-way-to-go/story-fndv2ypb-1226664377710

pffft the best one is we don't want our kids watching this

so they let their kids play grand theft auto or watch DVD's
or let the kids turn on the news and see a man standing with a knife and blood stained hands telling why they decided to
butcher some poor bloke.

well while the media are NRL bashing their leaving some other poor basted alone

Theres already a rule for others running in and most cop an automatic suspension. I don't get it though because this type of thing happens in a lot of sport. Look at ice hockey or even baseball in the US for example. Its part of it. I reckon they ought to leave it alone and punish offenders on a case by case basis as they do now. We don't want to end up like AFL with the wrestling and the hair pulling do we ? The worlds going soft. Next thing there will be a ban on boxing.

Maybe, just maybe ....Just as the Shooters Party believe in man's need to hunt and kill, so professional contact sportsman need to punch , coathanger, shoulder charge and otherwise inflict bodily harm on their opponentsor on seasons end Mad Mondays team mates they don't like.

The whole thing is part of the NRL show,
just think
The head cockroaches sick of being losers adapt a plan of aggresion for game 1, they appoint Gallen the job of trying to upset the cane toads
Gallen has a pre game plan going the biff with nate because of myles positive influence for QLD in getting over the cockroaches in previous years. FACT
Gallen lines up Myles when it suits him to land a couple of Jam donuts (Myles head went what wuz that, bloody mozzies) and QLD get a penalty, Gallen stays on field.
Cockroaches win game 1 .

Gallen fronts NRL and gets a week for attacking the head of an opponet.

Poor social media surrounds the actions of Gallen and the inaction of NRL puppets, and we get some talk of retribution and a change of rules for game 2 .

NRL today say that anyone throwing a punch will be sent from the field for 10.

ARE the Head NRL cockroaches looking after their NSW players well being ?

Looks like the cockies will be working OT trying to cover the BF drama.

A bit of Biff has always been part of Rugby League.

If you didn't like it you watched AFL which ironically judging by the games on the weekend I seen bits of are relaxing their umpiring to allow the game to flow more.

So what do you end up with? RFL!? Even as a junior a couple of punches in league were always part of the game and when your purpose is such heavy contact it's inevitable that it will happen. Is OHS and PC going to rule our sport now as well??

Imagine going to Rome to watch gladiators that were unable to hurt each other... Wouldn't quite be the same would it....
