I remembered this morning while riding a 6'2 why it is ridiculous to feel any guilt taking waves from Longboarders on my SUP.

The Alley was overrun by everyone from 16 year old 40kg clones on pigment coloured logs to old guys with surf hats on 9'6's.

The Longboards were running havoc.

I rode a longboard in certain conditions for a long time so I have no problem at all with any kind of craft but lets just say that I have a few regular faces from Currumbin picked out that I will happily return the favour next SUP session out there.

When they complain I will cite the date, time and conditions that they burnt me and everybody else in the water..........

I hope this stirs you all up a bit, just remember you guys started this wave hog thing.

P.S I know many of these old farts by name...

Haha

I so glad I live in WA where the SUP and LB contingent is low

When I was in QLD I looked long and hard at the Alley and tbh would risk my life going out there. Saying that I went out at snapper, that was madness to

We share waves at Bells & Winki.... We even call each other into them on some good days, mid week, 9-5, when crowds are low .

I here you CMC. I too have a few faces picked out for future sessions.... Since moving back though, there's been about 3-4 guys that chose to burn me, but all is good now.... they were just burning an unfamiliar face....

I just tell them point blank these days though.... "come on, share it around a bit, you're not the only one out here...."... You have to be polite and say it with a smile.... and a laugh..

Its not always SUp vs shorty or long board vs SUP or what ever, it really is who is riding.
Had surf today and had someone incessant on riding every bump in the ocean...we were both on same type of craft... dropped in, snaked, charged etc etc, I changed banks only to catch a beaut and f-me if he did not paddle straight over...so paddled back to the original bank... guess what..yep magnet turned up..[}:)]
What made it worse... really crowded all 4 of us

Yep definately the user not so much the craft. Using some types of craft just mean those people have more opportunities to do there evil deeds [}:)]

Hearing you all imo it's not the surf craft that is the problem but some of the kooks that ride them.Burn me once ok burn me twice not ok burn me three times game on.

You could do a great T-Shirt out of that !

Burn Me
Once OK
Twice not OK
Three times, Game On

or;

Burn me once OK
Burn me twice not OK
Burn me three times,
GAME ON

Was at my little patch today, it was nice not big but long long rides, could have done with a little more water underneath, very low tide today.

Anyway,a couple of sweepers made their way out,the gate keeper must have called in sick. One rather large man paddles out and starts taking a few too many for my liking.I just kept looking at him not saying a word for 20 minutes,I did the paddle past a couple of times kept looking at him until he said hi mate,I kept the cone of silence until he finally realized my protest and called me into a bomb.Jackson Close was doing the right thing on his sup today, staying wide at Snapper and not dropping in,not once.

Yes Mac, very civilised. I would have had the post deleted and received 7 nasty PM's for an outburst like that in the SUP forum.

My post was a tongue in cheek jibe really, I agree as much as anyone it's all about the rider not the craft.

Thanks guys.
