Haven't started yet, would like to do the following tint.

Any suggestions how to go about it.

The only way I can see is to do the black on the blank, then use tinted resin to laminate over it.

I love doing resin tints.

They are actually a lot easier than you think. You just need to be super prepared. The first colour that hits the blank sticks. So you need to mix up several different batches at the start to give you enough time to play around with it before it goes off. If you are doing a short board you can get away with it in one go. For a long board its much better to mix them up differently so that they all blend in together nicely without one colour going off before the other. There are lots of cool resin tint videos on youtube. You need to make sure that the colours you choose work well together. Most importantly though you need to just have faith in the process - thats the hardest part I reckon. Its a freaky experience doing them the first time but its incredible how they turn out - and seeing what the colours do. Its weird. Here is one that Vanders made with the lady of many colours. Lots of technique tips you can learn here - esp the way the diff colours blend in together.

Thanks Ted.

I would kill to be able to do a Mexican blanket as good as that. Have some ideas for next time though.

The board I showed above, I noticed that the black and light colours are poured onto the glass, not the blank. Would be interesting to see how they squeegee out.

You lay the glass down first then apply the resin - the resin will soak though the glass and hit the blank - first colour that hits it will stick. Do not try and apply colour with the hot coat - I have tried this and unless you do it perfectly you do not get a consistent colour and it looks terrible - you can trust me on this one

yeah its amazing how well the colours stay true to where you pour them on the glass and don't run too much over the other colours,i guess the cloth really soaks it up and onto the blank,I did a mini simmons quad resin tint ,turned out ok but the board wants to surf really flat its hard to get it on rail, might be too wide in the tail maybe or quad set up wrong, tried it behind a kite and it was even harder to get on rail.Ill chuck a pic up and someone may see the problem, might even be the way i surf it too
