Moved to Perth recently and am a little over riding close outs all the time. Considering getting a longboard for Cottesloe/Mettams breaks. Longboarders seem to do pretty well and I dont think I'm handy enough to get the most out of a short board here, plus I think I prefer the cruisy style a longboard offers.
Was thinking about a 9'6" Walden Magic model, I'm pretty light though, ~70kg. Any feedback on these or advice on longboards in general?

They are an ok board - well constructed and perform pretty well in all conditions HOWEVER you are way too light to really get all the fun out of it that you are seeking. Even in tiny waves a 9ft (ish) longboard will have all the paddle and wave-catching ability you will ever need. If you want a super tough, fun and versatile board then look at a 9.2 NSP or if you look around you will pick up a nice second hand pu board for around $500 - $600 (a reputable brand)
Yes - I know I rave on about the nsp mals but for everyday knocking about I would take a new nsp over a walden magic any day of the week - and not just because its $500 cheaper either (although thats a pretty good rason alone)

I'd check out Clearwater/Steve Del Rosso and Scarbourgh (sp?) Longboard. Steve's a bit of a cult hero from Perth and makes some good boards. Or try Pco who's a forum member.

Waldens last really well and thequality is pretty good, my girlfriend has the Wahine model. They unfortunetly don't come in a masive range of lenghs and widths.

Have you had a look in Scarbough Longboards? He has heeps of second hand stuff
