Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could give me some insight into getting a new product out into the market & into surf shops. There is currently nothing else like it, but I am no saleman as my attempts to approach stores proves.
If there is anybody who might be interested in becoming a rep or know of someone who could help, could you please let me know.
I'm not sure if I can post a link as it might be classed as advertising

Generally speaking, in most forums I've been a member of, new products and or services that are just getting off the ground are usually exempted from a great deal of scrutiny in terms of free plugs.

It's really only an issue with established businesses.

I'm sure our mods are experienced enough to spot any ringers or something contrary to the advertising policies. They'll just can the thread, no shame in that. This is the internet, it should never be taken too seriously.

Ok sweet.
The product enables kids from ages 3 upwards to safely & successfully stand up on a surfboard & surf to the beach with an adult.
www.learn2surfstrap.com.au
It is a surfboard shaped floatation device (Australian standards complient) with a handle that you strap around your kids waist so you can help them to their feet & hold them steady as the surf. You can then give pointers on feet positioning etc...

I have got it into a couple of surf stores by cold calling but really need more exposure.
It is easy to use & most kids get up & surf within their first few waves. Their stoke is awesome.

hey mate - have you spoken to the guys at dripping wet in Sydney ?? If not contact John at dripping wet at Bondi and arrange a meeting with him and take in your product and ask his advice and guidance. Not only does he have more experience in surf retail than anyone else in this country he owns two of the biggest shops in the country (if you know what I mean)
Hes a great guy but make sure you go in with your A game - good luck and let us know how you go.

Yes, Dripping wet, they're red hot retailers, I'm a hard bugger to sell anything to and I got my last 2 new tuflites off them.

They actually have another store at Nth Manly, I went and had a look at it yesterday, it's in an industrial area and from what I could see out the back, it doubles as their warehousing space.

It was a bit of a disappointment because the only new ones on display their were SUP battle cruisers tuflites

They desperately needed it, the Nth Styne store was way overcrowded and there's just not enough ceiling height for logs

If your product is good and you believe it is the best of its kind out there then you are more than halfway there - belief in yourself and your product are paramount - if you don't have these two things then give up now - but if you do then talk to John and other people like him and pick their brains and ask lots of questions and you will be successful You have already taken the first step by putting yourself on an open forum and asked for help - if you are genuine then the journey has just started.

My crystal ball shows the goldy crews kids testing this new product in the not too distant future. (was that too subtle )

Just had a thought - if you are in sydney - when you catch up with the bondi dripping wet crew ask for the contact number for (I think her name is susie) surfing mums at Maroubra. She is an absolute sweetheart and I reckon the surfing mums organization would be a great testing ground. I can give you contact details for surfing mums in Byron also if you wish - they are a strong group there and it would be good to contact them and get yourself up to Byron for one of their surfing days and get the product in front of them.

And Mac - stop bitching about working - you are putting me off my very very cold fosters.

That is a great product
My girls will feel more safer knowing that dad is holding on to them.
Do the staps go around the shoulders or just around the waist?

No just the waist, but as long as it is fairly tight it gives enough support & won't come loose. We recommend that you only use it in water that the child can easily stand in & just catch the white water, as even if a child can swim in the pool, the surf is another matter.
I had thought about shoulder straps but I thought they would just get in the way & the waist belt did the job.
If the child falls you just keep hold of the strap & roll off the side with them.
They are very easy to use & come with an 8 page demo mag with photos.
The kids seem to get alot of confidence just knowing that you have hold of them & I have surfed with friends kids who are 3 & 4 who had never been to the beach before but thought it was a magic strap that would help them surf. They all got up first go.

I was told off a couple of surf store owners a while back that if City Beach stocks your product that alot of surf shops will drop it. I'm not sure wether it is out of spite, they both wouldn't eleborate
