Just ordered a 8'x22"x3" triple stringer semi-gun single fin. I know it's considered a mid-length here, but it's the biggest board I will have owned. My shaper guided my step up from the 7 footer. I am looking forward to hitting a few solid waves soon.

I will post pics when I get it, but expect it will be at least a month. Then another fortnight before I surf it. I am really heavy on my back foot and have caved in too many decks to surf it even slightly green. I get double 6oz glass on all my boards too.

Too much nose for what I wanted and suggested the step from 7 to 9 foot was a big one and that the 8 footer was a development of what I was already surfing, whereas a 9 footer - the McTavish or a custom would be something different. I went in there with a whole bunch of things I wanted - some contradictory - and asked him to guide me in what I needed. I trust my shapers to build me boards that do what I want as I have previously wrecked boards by getting what I requested as I thought I had an idea. A little knowledge was a dangerous thing in that case. Once the foam is gone it can't be put back.

That's why I love my shaper. He doesn't tell me how to do my job,and I have learnt to listen to him

Was in yahoos shop the other day. I found it surprising that his own shapes were more expensive that the MCT stocked in his own shop (his long boards were 100 bucks more from memory).

The McTavish is an SLX pop out from Asia. Hence the price. I didn't realise that when I was looking at it until we started discussing epoxy boards which I pretty much loathe. And they were $200 pricier than the McTavish.

Sounds sick...can't wait to see some photo's!!

Don't want to say to much but your lawn may need some attention while you wait for the new stick

Shhh - it's a sensitive issue. We got back from a six month holiday around Oz a week and a half ago and found the lawn had been hit by the perfect storm. The lawnmower man we got in for the trip had been scalping the buffalo and the house sitter hadnt watered. 3/4 of the lawn is cactus and the rest is as dry as a nun's nasty. I have been working hard with the sprinklers to bring back what is left. AND I chose one of the green, shaded bits for the photo because I knew someone would comment.

Well the lawn is recovering nicely.

I got some news this week on the new board. I had only just told the wife it must be almost done when I got the email.

I had asked for S glass as I used to get it years ago and those boards aged really well. However, apparently the only glass he could access was 4oz from Don Burford so I have just run with E glass instead of adding a layer to the top and bottom.

More frustrating was the bit about the blank I required being too wide for a gun blank and too rockered for a mal blank. Custom blank was needed so my board is getting shaped this Wednesday hopefully.

I was just getting a thin black pencil line around the start of the rail to accentuate the outline while still letting the stringers be a feature (let's face it, first triple stringer board - I want a bit of "look at me" factor). What do you think or any ideas on alternatives?

If he still has the SLX mctavish then I'm going to drive down and get it. I've been looking for a new fireball for ages and they are not really sold anywhere any more.
