As most of you are aware, I have a new 9'6 x 22"1/2 x 3"1/4.
Handshape, slight Vee all the way through. It's basically a McTavish Redline Pintail variation. But it is actually quite different in many ways.

Anyway, at first glance I thought 22"1/2 wide is a bit skinnier than average for a 9'6, but I knew I would still like it. Especially under the assumption that there was extra foam in the "guts", at 3"1/4.

In short I would encourage intermediate or better Longboarders to scrape off width, and substitute it a little bit with thickness.

Same with your new one Mac, even when going big, don't go too wide.

Anyway, I'm off for more board testing time at Winki! Enjoy!

Interesting given that most of the world is pushing the foam distribution to the rail, thinning the overall thickness and having a flatter deck.

Probably makes sense for a longboard but the only way to keep the rails not tanky is to add dome, the reduced width magnifies that as well.

Personally I prefer flatter decks, actually concave decks feel amazing but too much dome means delayed reaction as your foot has to roll all of the way across the deck to initiate the turn.

Mine normal lb is 22". iMO Only complaint is narrow width make it harder to get a nice plane shape, or curve in the outline, usually means a sub 18 nose to, so not ideal unless you have some balance up the front end and cause the narrow width they tend to be straighter in the rails, so the question is? Is the benefit of a narrower board going rail to rail lost because the plane shape is straighter?

Also ImO depends how the thickness is distributed front to back. More so than the actual thickness in the middle.
