Hi guys,
just thought there might be somebody interested in hearing about the 9,6" NSP cocomat longboard and how it rides. I never thought I would own an NSP and most confess to looking down on them as kook boards in the past even though I never actually owned or tried one. I've been longboarding my whole life, almost 30 years and have owned a LOT of boards in all kind of technologies from traditional PU through to Epoxy composites, not to mention a few Balsa and Paulownia boards. I have been riding a heavy Volan Bing copy my local shaper built for me but not really gelling with it. I'm a firm believer that you 'just know' about a new board the first time you put it in the water. This time I thought about my dwindling bank balance and decided another new board was out of the question so kept persevering with it.
I happened to be in my local dealer the other day as a new batch of boards from Surftech came in. In amongst the uninspiring and sadly now limited range of Surftechs were these new cocomat NSPs.
the Surftech guy has known me for years as I've owned dozens of their longboards in the past and told me these boards are better constructed and come out of the same factory in Thailand. My first impression was how good the board looked, it is their deep red colour accentuated by a cream comp stripe. It's shaped by well known and respected Oz shaper, Kim Thompson. I liked the shape and could see it would make a great board for messy/bigger or just days where you want to mess about and try something different. The biggest shock is the weight...there isn't any! You can pick this board up and hold it above your head one handed, it's freakishly light. They aren't cheap, not compared to the old NSPs and Surftech have concerns the price will scare off their usual market target, the beginner. I have to be honest my pride was asking me if I could be seen passing the local crew with an NSP under my arm, I could imagine the piss taking I would get but I was so impressed with the board I swapped my 10ft Volan single fin there and then and walked out with it.
Fins are included in the price, the centre fin box is standard 10" and the sides are FCS. The side fins were huge so the first thing I did was swap them for a smaller set I had at home.
This morning was 4-5 and cross onshore, loads of lines of whitewater on the beaches but clean way outside. It seemed a good time to try it out.
Carrying the board was a joy, it's so user friendly I could walk miles with it, a good job too as it was low tide and a half mile walk to the waters edge.
The board is 9,6" and 23" wide, thickness 3,3/8". Volume is 82 litres. It paddles very easily, even with my 6,1" and 14stone onboard and feels totally unintimidating. It catches waves very easily and is like a rocket. It has speed and just flies across faces. At first I found this a bit disconcerting but once you have a few waves under your belt and get used to its lively performance it's like ....freedom. Fast, responsive and agile, it lets you get away with things you shouldn't be able to on a longboard. It has a nice amount of rocker but not so much that it pushes water. It noserides really well for a light board and that was with the side fins in, I can only imagine what it would be like set up as a single fin.
As I said earlier, I've ridden a lot of longboards but this is better than most of the boards I've tried. No, let's rephrase that, it's THE best all rounder longboard I've ever ridden. Last year I revisited the Surftech 9,6" Bear all rounder, well it's better than that (sorry Randy) my old 9,4" Wingnut NR model, better than that. My Walden Magic model, better than that. I don't think I need to go on eh?

Fellas I don't work for NSP, in fact I don't work full stop. I just thought I'd share my experience on the 9,6" in case there is anyone out there thinking of dropping their cash on one. My advice? Go for it...you can't go wrong. This board is for everyone but I would say experienced long boarders will get more out of it. It takes your surfing to a whole new place.
Any cons? None really except I can only guess about resale values/depreciation.

Dear Penthouse

I never thought I would ever be writing to you because I never believed anything like this could ever happen to me, but it has. I was at work yesterday when the new head of HR came it to see me, she's a tall leggy blond with tits like rocks and an ass like .....
......

..............

......

So then she just gets up, wipes her chin and walks out of my office like nothing has happened, and leaves me to clean up the mess.

Yours truly

Been at least 3 years since I've seen one - repairs don't look good & there is discolouration from sunlight on some
