My new Canadian buddy who I gave an old wetsuit to is a motivated person...

He's been in town (in Torquay) for about 14 days now. In that time, this is what he's done;
- flow into Melbourne, bought a car, straight to Bells for a surf
- didn't have anything organised, found accomm at back packers
- has since taken on 10hrs work per week at the back packers, and gets free rent and $50 cash in the hand for his trouble.
- has a job at a coffee shop on Bell Street paying $15/hr
- gets to surf in the morning, or mid afternoon between lunch & dinner shifts
- he's been down the coast to surf Johanna, and see the 12 apostles.
- he's organising a deal with a local surf school and the back packers, and he's already noticed that the surf school owners are "a little flakey"! Gold!

By the way, he looks a little like a young Michael Peterson. So he looks like a Torquay local already!! Classic.

For him, Torquay water would be like The Gold Coast for me, but a fraction of the crowd! This is the land of the long right hand point breaks!

Very impressive. I now want to know he is travelling off the park? Is he a high achiever as well?

Sounds like a typical Canadian to me.

Go somewhere, don't organize anything, arrive and get where you decide you need to be getting, have an Oh sh1t moment, get a job that'll cover expenses (no more no less), get a warm bunk, have some fun, realize half the people around you are blow hards and find better people (like Simondo) to hang out with. Never leave!

That would just about cover my move here, just haven't meet Simondo yet.

It sounds like Adrian (the young Canadian Michael Peterson) is planning on being around town for a while... I was showing him around on Google Map, showing him a bunch of places to surf, and explaining the reef formations, etc... And discussions flow on... he's even keen to get into some AFL, and he's already figured out that Geelong Cats have racked up 3 recent Premierships, and he's going to follow The Cats!
