Apparently the old thread is too old to be re-opened.

I decided a while back that I needed a mid length with heaps of volume for this long long wave I surf in Indo. Spent a long time trying to figure out what would work and seeing what the boys that dominate that wave ride. I also got some inspiration from those speedy lines the older boys used to take at J-Bay. Length and paddle power and a speed machine is desired. Pics should becoming in a few days - it's getting polished tomorrow. Starting to get excited. Its got glassed in side bites through the channels and has been glassed super heavy so it will cope with the beatings it will be getting. 6 on the bottom and 2 * 4's on top plus 2 lots of 4 criss-crossed over the deck as well. Should be an absolute speed demon once she is up and flying. Never had a board like this before. Should be interesting.

It's a 7'3" widow maker. Its super seeding my 6'10" Outer Islands Coral Reefer for the bigger days. So maybe it's not a true mid length

Yeah I thought about going longer but this has heaps of volume and I still wanted something I can play on. Let's see how she turns out. These days I am getting a bit soft on the bigger days so this will probably be big enough. And a good excuse to dodge those really big days

Very nice Ted...

Would have suited that left you surfed a few weeks back.

How wide is it?

Because the fin placement is right in the edge of the channels. So plugs would not work. This board will be living at my place in indo so will not be getting transported as a general rule so should be a drama I hope

SP - 7'3*21*3. Heaps of volume to get me home safely ! These style of boards do not have a lot of rocker. Old style shape. It would have loved those waves from last week that's for sure. I would have loved the paddle power as well. This is the biggest volume board I have owned by a long way bar longboards.

Karl Hassel is the master shaper. The man who taught me to glass n shape.

Steve - let's hope so. Would be fun down that wave close to yours that I am yet to surf sadly

With Tux.

It may have to travel if you ever get over here. That's very close to my all rounder dimensions. It would go sick at a few of the waves I am tossing up over for Saturday.

And, like Cobra, I now have a soft on, but that's because I have made a mess.

Sick, bro.

I hear what you are saying re volume Tux. This machine has a truckload. I was super excited when I picked it up. Heaps of volume all the way to the rail almost. I think it will be enough for now. If not can get another one

Would be a nice board for your spots Drip from what I have surfed in the past. It's got heaps of weight so should deal with the chop nicely. Hate getting bounced.

Chop? There's never chop here. It's always light offshore.

And I am off to see the rough shape of my my latest midlength tomorrow. It's worry though when a shaper renowned for volume says he is concerned with the volume in the nose of the 9'6" and says it looks like "a real chaser, man". I'm not sure I want a board that Tom Hoye calls a real chaser.

Thanks for resurrecting the anti-Christ of threads too, Ted. Sorry, Cobra.

I'll post some picks tomorrow night.

I think drip surfs a lot of days I'd be on the beach

Nah. You boys are talking me up. I completely subscribe to Tux's theory and the 9'6" is for solid without being huge days. 8' sets with the odd bigger set (very odd - I want them every 30-45 minutes) and only at select spots with big channels to hide in and predictable peaks that roll in and don't jack too much.

The mid-length in the conversation is the eight footer get built at the same time for 6-8' days and crowd control on smoking 4-6' days in holiday times.

It's the first time I have ever got multiple boards at once so I'm pretty excited. In a slow burn sort of way. The position in the cue was booked in March 2015 and the dimensions on paper in April this year. I hope the board will be finished in January or February. At 73 Tom has slowed right down. Of course everything is done by hand by him and he pours over them for days. "It's all about getting the right vibe."

And on your board, have you ever had a board with that old school shape, volume and rocker? That's a flavour I have been pursuing for about five years. Love that fun set up too.

I've thought about channels for them - I have three channel boards and love them - but was a bit nervous about making a semi-gun even faster. It should hold onto anything though. We need a ride report ASAP.
