Been looking into a custom log from a local shaper in SE QLD. Don't get the opportunity to get to the beach as much and got myself an 8' beachbeat and it has kept my wave count up and surfs amazing. Want to get myself a log that I can surf in most conditions at sunny and Gold Coast and hopefully take the same board to the odd Bali trip.

McTavish sounds like the obvious choice, anybody who rides one seems to love them, looking at the Evo II or Beatnik

Thomas surfboards look slick too but haven't read anyone to back that up? looking at their wizl or harrison

Any Thomas surfboards fans? Or should I stick to McTavish?

I think you should seriously also consider a chat with Tully St John at Laguna Bay Longboards in Noosa. His boards are sensationally built and have all the pedigree of the other boards you are considering. In my very humble opinion their Sleepwalker model is possibly the best log they've ever made. I have no affiliation with these guys, I just love their boards, service, and price.

Just my 2c worth.

The Evo and Beatnik are two totally different boards. Evo are perfect on a beach break or point and go great in Bali. I'll add to Bills list with Clearwater making some really nice boards also.

Ok cool thanks, yeah I really have no idea what shape would suit be, I guess once I've picked a shaper (or two) I will have to go and have a chat, benefits of getting a custom I guess

Yeah have liked both of their boards too! Picking out a couple of standout shapers from SE QLD is tough
