Howdy all,

I have been a long time lurker and only just posted in the Miller Sub-X forum.

Just wondering if people have opinions on the new McTavish Dirt Nap board. Looks beautiful finish wise and I am sure there was a lot of RnD that went into it.

However I think they may have limited their market by only offering specific sizes... As we all know the majority of mal riders are old and heavy set

Well in my experience anyway!

I've seen the first batch and I can say you will find it hard to view a board made with the quality and fine attention to detail than this model. As much as I am a fan of the brand this board is for the elite surfer and hence the limited spec's this is one mct model that I would never purchase I'm not too keen on the outline very 60/70's imo!

PS and welcome I'm enjoying your input.

It is an interesting looking shape - and if catered towards the elite then I am out... I guess providing specific specs would have some benefits however I would assume elite level surfers require more individualised specs than that of the average joe.

Similar to how conventional athletes require specific tailored equipment as a marginal change can make a large difference in performance.

A beautiful looking board without doubt...

Thanks for the kind words.

The board does look farking siiiiiiiick.... but... if you can afford the tag then i'd talk to the boys at Mctavish, Steve at CW, Josh at Creative army and/or whoever your local is. Get them to custom one that fits you, the conditions and your ability and its amazing how much you'll progress with the right stick under your feet... but please don't buy a GSI, support those who support surfing

I agree with the logic of buying local and handmade.... Although seems McTavish are moving back into popouts, after their press release stating they are no longer making them - although somewhat not to the scale of the older production method.

From a press release for Surftech:

The 2015 Surf lineup includes new board models from Channel Islands, Rusty Surfboards, Robert August and Mickey Munoz’s, who will be re-releasing his famed Ultraglide line as well as reintroducing legendary shaper and designer Bob McTavish, who will unveil three new Surftech models at Surf Expo. In addition there will be several new shaper and brands added to the Surftech family that will be introduced throughout 2015.

Popouts may be the non PC term - if this offends please replace this with Chinese, Thai, sweatshop made boards.

MCT do both, they make GSI pop-outs (I have a MCT Bobsled that i brought for $200 as it was badly damaged) but the boards brought direct are made on-site, just ask Mac as he's there 4-5hrs a day drooling and frothing, drooling and frothing, drooling and frothing, drooling and frothing

Ah ok - my mistake....

Australian (or locally made, depending on where you are) is the logical and ethical way..

And its not even more expensive to support the local, A surftech/GSI 10'er will set you back $1500-$2000 and a CW or CA will be more like $1300-$1600, MCT about $1900
