Been looking for a "good floater for an old bloater" so I've been looking at the McT Sumo to try a 2+1. Anyone here got one or tested one?, are they ok for beachies or more for point breaks. Any help much appreciated.

Have a look at the 7S SuperFish XL. I'm about 113kg and surf the 7'3" in quad fin config and love it. Looking at the new Epoxy model atm.
I like the look of the Sumo. Someone should get one and give us a rundown. Chrispy !!
imo i would like to see it next to a takayama scorpion...i think they would be fairly similar. i did not take a heap of notice of them when i was at the mac factory

commando roll past the vicious guard hounds raid the shelf capture all bad spirits full bottles only then asea can unleash a cannister of laughing gas just in case the big fella is alerted
thanks guys, but , has anyone ridden one? if you've ridden one what are they like to ride? are they a short longboard or a long shortboard. 62mac Whadda ya mean "ride 'em the way there meant to be ridden". Glide, rail to rail?? what? I've ridden Bobs boards on & off from the 70's starting with an original 3 fin (centre fin & two small 11/2" glass outrigger fins) when he was shaping for Barry Bennett in the 70's, bluebird swallow tail, a diamond tail, can't remember what else in between ,had a carver about 4 yrs ago all were good boards. So i know his boards work but I'm just wondering.....Thanks guys
I haven't ridden one. McTavish don't tell lies... They slot the board into their "Midlengths" range. They won't "release" a board onto the market until they are happy with it too.
Give them a call. I spoke to them about it. It has a rounded pin tail to give you better control in larger waves. Points & Beachies.
My ex 7'6 was that style of board. All that width and volume up forward makes it paddle into waves really good as well as trim fast and even nose ride and that pulled tail at the back means you can plant the back foot if you want to give it a bit of a hack. These types of boards are pretty versatile but I guess you need to try one to find out. I kept my 7'6 for about 5 years and gave it away to a good home just recently. I'd still have it if I could ride it.
I saw one of these today for the first time in the quicksilver board store in Manly (yep arvo at the Wharf Bar) and I was well surprised. It has loads of volume up front but the tail is pulled in massively and the rails appeared to have lost a lot of foam from their shoulders. The board I saw was ard the 6'4" length n looked like it would float most. it's not something I would go for but it looked like it would be a lot of fun - especially if u have access to some nice point breaks!
