Hey lads,

I have been racking up the brownie points big time of late and am thinking of cashing them in And like the look of the Mac Tracker.

Something to get my glide on in anything from 2 to 6 foot.

For those that may ask ME = 6'4, 125 kg's, age 40, surf 2x a week. surfing for 30 years.

Currently riding a 7' x 22 x 3 foot fish and a 7'2" x 22 x 3 JS

Was playing with the idea of a retro single around 7'6 or 7'8 x 22 x 3 ( may even go 7'10") round about. A bit of meat up front, fairly flat rocker and something to mix my surfing up a bit.

I was looking to go something a little longer than norm but not a LB, has anyone had something of a similar shape and size??
If so what did you think IE: good points V bad points. would you stay with the single or go 1 + 2 ???

If the trouble and strife is ok with this get on the dog and bone straight away and order one up. In my experience brownie points take a long time to be earned but can be taken away in a flash!

Locky i have never been able to cash in my browny points. maybe because i always finish a good deed with a **** up.

call me a skeptic, i don't believe it happens.

Looks like a great board for an old school approach in good waves. If you are after something to use a whole lot, i'd think there was a better option that is slightly less of a niche board (beautiful though it is). But I know what it's like once a particular board grabs your attention. It's hard to let it go. Keep us posted.

I recently got an 8'', 2+1 and have surfed mainly that over the last three weeks. It has been fantastic in solid waves and I am a fan of the little side biters. I can't ride thrusters because of an ankle injury and a 7' single fin has been my main board for three years, however the recent addition of a 6'10" 2+1 and the difference the side bites made in that board encouraged me to get them in the 8 footer. The thing is you can always take them out if you want the traditional feel, but adding them after manufacturer isn't as aesthetically pleasing although it can be done.

Performance wise I find they allow a little more rail to rail transition and make the board more forgiving - my board positioning doesn't need to be quite as perfect - and both boards turn markedly tighter with them. The side biters on the 8 footer are tiny too.

Having grown up on single fins, when I got my first one for 30 years 3 years ago I loved it. I was driven to it by injury, but the drive, glide, lines, paddle in of that 7 footer was everything I had been looking for in my gun thrusters for 15 years, but it also surfed way down the scale.

I am 43 years old, 6'2" and 90kgs. Both the 7 and 8 footer are three inches, the 7' is 20 1/2 wide and the 8' is 22. The 8' is surprisingly loose. They both have 13" tails.

Hope this helps. I was looking at the Trackers too when I ordered locally. I changed the rails from the 7 to the 8 too and made them a bit knifie.

there is a new variation of the tracker coming out soonish i believe. The Rincon looks and feels sweet. I havent ridden one but a few guys i know that have say its amazing.

Have you anymore info on what the change is? Perhaps some more performance in the rail?

Mac cheers, I did see that but at my weight I think it might be on the limit of the small side. I know it ain't much but 1" wider and 1/4" thicker might make my brain say its all good Although it hurts alot I will ponder a little more

To all else the missus has broken her foot ( 4 weeks ago now )
Still in a moon boot and on crutches for at least another 3 weeks so these brownie points are SOLID

McTavish have a good amount of stock boards for rent or try before you buy. Give them a call. The sales guy there lives on the gold coast and will even meet you on the Goldy to deliver. Cool guy to chat with as well.

Theres also a lot of pre loved red white and black boards in the second hand rack well maybe just one left.

As Chrispy said GT is a great guy has saved many a trip by delivering boards and fins up the coast.

Bob has been 'thrashing' around the Rincon '68 concept for a while... I have yellow 7'10 Rincon '68 called "The Dream Machine"...
Mine is a modern take, with a quad set-up....

But the basic concept is, Longboards lead to The Tracker, and then Bob & George were doing more work on The Tracker at Rincon in '68, and refined it further.
Then The Bluebird came after that...

This was mine, straight out of the box, with a few extra goodies! :)

For me personally boards like the tracker are the most beautiful boards ever made, and they allow us more..... mature surfers to reflect on our first boards, mine was a 7'2" diamond tail with stress marks. What you remember- plenty of meat under your chest for paddling, speed from the lack of friction that having only one fin provides..... what you forget is how stiff they were to turn in sloppy beachbreaks, how those narrow tails would sink in weak waves.... what today's modern midlengths bring is stability, controllability, versatility, easy wave catching etc. By using modern concepts such as single to double concaves, hard edges through the tails (s7 superfish xl- groan all you like they are ripper boards) or loaded domes (McCoy nuggets) you get what are probably the most user freindly, versatile boards out there for older, heavier less fit surfers. What also makes boards like the tracker so appealing are the clips of wonderful young surfers riding them like I can't remember them being ridden back in the day, full squat rail grab turns- I couldn't have done them at 24 let alone 54! So would I like a tracker or similar retro midlength? Hell yeah! Clear volan, rail laps translucent blue fin- something to relive my youth and hang on the wall when the body says "enough".

What's happening Locky? On track? Or better still on a Tracker? Better check the expiry date on that voucher.
