RoyStuart said.. Cuttlefish said.. RoyStuart said.. Cuttlefish said.. It's when the shaper claims their designs are the be all and end all of surfboard design (and others are rubbish) that they open themselves up to proving the claims.

I think that we all know who that's aimed at, but if so it's utter BS as I've never claimed anything of the sort, and when I do criticise other designs I do so in a reasoned way.
You'll notice that I have little or no criticism of current mainstream shortboard design, and have stated that I'm impressed by the impressive results which are being achieved in that realm.
Anyway I'm going to watch Marc's video, and have no doubt that I'll like most of what he has to say.
No. That just shows that you think I am talking about you...which is utter BS.
Ok, which shaper(s) are you referring to then?
I don't know of any who fit the description.
Well said by Onuela on Swaylocks...
“every genius is passionate about their baby and the list is long from Paul(penguin), to Roy(board design), to Griffin(5fin/G10) to Jeff Alexander(Gemini), to Simmons, to Blake, to Brewer, to Geoff McCoy/Cheyne Horan, to Mr X, to Mr velo spoon/mat, to Eckstrom, to Bufo, to Mike(Grain), to Tommy Petersen(BushRat), to Maurice Cole (Concaves), Y(Boogie), Mike(LibTech), to Bert(Balsa Rails) to Greg(Resin Research), to Blane(PaddleSurfHawaii), to all the fin guys.. you can't fault any of them for their passion in what they believe and sometimes for a few their passion can be blinding for its their baby, their lover their reason for being who they are and all that they went through to get there respect to them all and thank god they are there to keep pushing the envelope And if you do get to ride it ride it feet close togethor forward of center tiki stance.” Onuela, poster on swaylocks re Roy's 13'er.
A quick search of the net brings up a few examples from various forums though...
He's claiming his boards will go better than Stretch's at Mav's. Could get interesting (for those of you that enjoy the occasional trainwreck thread).
forum.surfer.com/index.php Scroll down: "In the fashion stakes perhaps not, but in terms of function my boards are WAY ahead of yours . . . yours are improving however.
The central riding postion and spherical rocker with 50/50 planshape I've been doing for 17 years and ALL my boards gave identical overall tail and rocker measurements. . . the benefits of these features you have only just started to discover.
Your tail and fins need to be improved. . .
if my boards had the chance to line up at Mavericks with yours in a regular basis you'd soon see who's on top." Roy. “That's why we started the pipeline challenge”
The board is one of the most perfect shapes ever created, and will ride pipeline exceptionally well.” Roy on Magic Seaweed forum.
“Elsewhere on the net, Roy has said that Frye Eagles are "dogs" and that they "don't turn well". Sammy A, Swaylocks forum.
“Almost a year ago I had a personal message exchange with Roy on another forum, after it had reached the over boiling point between him and most of the participants, in which I suggested that instead of making such absurd claims about his craft and feeling compelled to put down other shapers as a means of defending his shapes, he consider just presenting his unique craft on their own merits, make his points on why he builds and rides them, and let the 'public' receive them as they might. His personal message answer, to quote, was - '**** Off' A retort he has used multiple times on open forums when someone challenged or disagreed with his pretentious claims. Not "hey, check these boards out I build, think they are unique, this is the why and how." Uh-uh. It's "My boards would work better at Mavericks then Stretchs, whose rockers are all wrong. The right rider didn't ride them at Pipe. Randy Rarick is a lying kook with a private agenda to ruin me. I have sold multiple boards for hundreds of thousand of dollars each. etc. etc.” ICC, Swaylocks forum.
