Jeepers - whats the world coming to! I would argue that the swimmers can just head around to Shelly for a swim before the flags come up if they really want to.....the South end is a good spot as its can handle the big southerly and roaring winds and is an ideal place for the beginners to hang out the majority of the time. The ocean needs to be shared by all users but the swimmers get it the rest of the time anyway.....not too mention the clubbies who seem to love playing in the surf down that way all day long on their clubbie boards.....ummmm do not get me started

Now that's just crap, it's like car drivers wanting motorcycles banned.......

What I fail to understand is how this society got so intolerant! Ive seen swimmers out at Manly getting pissed at board riders coming too close, but I've also seen the "I'm so cool I'm a surfer" board riders lord it over the swimmers, so it goes both ways.

Sheesh, why don't we ban going in the ocean all together? Oh wait, they did that back in the 1890s.....

Perhaps we should just ban anything that's remotely like fun, that would cover all of it, and prevent these inane newspaper articles getting printed for good.

It's unfortunate that someone was injured by the surfer but banning surf on 1/3rd of the beach is a bit ridiculous.

As far as bad injuries go maybe 500m around the pipes should be banned from public access so we don't have a repeat of the guy that body surfed into one of them couple years back.

Or maybe to keep all parties happy we should ban all water related activity in Manly for fear of someone getting injured and we could put people in hermetically sealed bubbles as they get off the ferry so they can't injure themselves.

In the old school we didn't shoulder charge. We TACKLED the opposition. around the bootlaces.

Team sport is for the SUBLIMATION of aggression. Not the practice of it.

Now, as for the swimmers, fin chop the ****s!

Maybe someone should remind the swimmers who performs most of the beach rescues at places like Manly on a busy day

Once someone reminds manly council, particularly via the agency the local business associations, of who all those kooks out in the water with those cheap asia boards are, they may relegate this proposal to the rubbish bin.

Unless you've surfed there on a regular basis, it's hard to come to terms with the shear volume of tourists in the water. Usually they stick out like dogs balls, but even I'm fooled on occasion until I see them paddle for their first wave. They're not there to stroll along the promenade, or take in the ozone, or perhaps purchase an ice-cream whilst they observer other happy holiday maker and day trippers sashey by.

They're young and they're there to get as close as possible, for the few short months that they're here, to the dream of a beachside surfing lifestyle.

They work to spend, not to save, they saved to get here and they don't want to take any of it back. They buy the board they buy the wetty they don't bring a cut lunch to the beach, when they're hungry, they buy food, and not just for themselves, they all have partners or someone that they're trying to crack on to.

And all this is happening during the day, you've seen nothing until you've watched them spend at night in the bars clubs and eateries.

They all want to live as close to that place as possible and why? because of its surfing culture, its surfing history, and most of all its surfing accessibility.

One can only hope that the local business community is aware of this potential loss.

jeepers how old are you blokes? You would have to be at least 10 to recall a game in that much detail which would put you almost into your 6th decade

Hey Beerdead - have you glassed that board yet? Make sure you post some pics when its done.

Old enough to see Cessnock clean up Maitland in the 1972 Grand final.

And yes, I'm in my 6th decade, but I still like to get wet.

I've glassed it but I keep sanding through the glass and having to patch it. Something to do with poor eyesight! Haven't adjusted to that yet.
Gives me an excuse in the water. I can't see who else is going for the wave. If I do see them I tell 'em "I can't turn". They soon get out of the way.

I've decided to gloss the board. I'll post a piccie when I've finished.

BD.
