Longboard Masters Set To Walk The Plank At The Maili Masters

Rainbow Bay will be the venue for the 5th annual Maili Masters on September 8th & 9th. A new division the Kapunas (grandfathers) is being included to cater for aging surfers who still wish to amaze other surfers as well as spectators as they glide across the waves Hanging Ten for the next two days.

When they aren't in the water these salt encrusted will be treated to a meet and greet on the Friday evening in the penthouse of the award winning Maili Skyhomes. There they will be able to survey the weekends contest arena as well as glimpse a sneak preview of Last Paradise, a major surf movies by Clive Neeson.

With surfers like 1962 Bells Champion Doug Andrews coming from the Sunshine Coast to catch up with Rip Curl co founder Doug Warbrick in the waves, the emphasis will be on having fun rather than winning.

Saturday will see some on beach entertainment with the Coolangatta Ukulele Club before competitors and friends belt out a few Karaoke tunes with Sydney's Dave Fraser upstairs at the Rainbow Bay SLSC.

About Maili Masters Surf Rally
The Maili Masters Longboard Rally is for the crusty old surfer who wants to share a few waves, maybe a story or two over a lot of cold beer and to reminisce about some surfing history with a mate or two. Monies raised goes to local charity "Kids in Need"

About Maili Skyhomes
Maili Skyhomes is a recently completed, environmentally sustainable, luxury residential development, located at Rainbow Bay which won the Best Medium Density Apartment at the Master Builders Gold Coast Housing and Construction Awards earlier this month..

Do they clear the water for you blokes?

If they do, pay up, chance of decent waves, minimal crowds....

No they don't clear the water mate but the trick is to catch the next wave behind Asea, you don't want to be near him as he attacks the wave, most people paddle away like no tomorrow others freeze in fear.

Maybe They could employ Lacey on the Sic 6r to block for you blokes or maybe you could get him to just block for you be a good heat strategy.

Shame you don't get the water cleared, I remember a story from mag editor who was covering a no star event in Nias or somewhere and they're we're spots left so he coughed up his $50 or whatever and then got 35 minutes at 6 ft nias with 3 other blokes.... Surely that's gotta be good value. I think he even caught a few after the hooter and got a fine from the ASP but he didn't pay it so I think it was like 10 waves for $50....

Thats an awesome tale SP - I think that bloke has his head screwed on the right way. 6ft Nias with 3 others would be heaven - I wonder when it was - before or after the Quake...they reckon its even hollower these days post the event.

As long as the swell stays under 3ft there should be no major crowd issues. Just mellow waves and sunshine. Where would your rather be.
For those that want to you can still put an entry in at the meet & greet at Maili Skyhomes on Friday night. There will be some nibbles a few beers and if someone forks out the $$$$$$$$$$$ to buy a unit there will be more than a few beers. Surfing starts 8am both days and there are great competitor prizes including boardies, ts-shirts Barz Optics, fins, leggies, deck grip.

it was well before the quake, I think it was maybe Tim Baker, when he was at ASL, possibly tracks, but the details are foggy, it was a long time ago. Id guess early to mid 90s.

Dude we need you

But always remembered the story, cause that's just one of the moments you'd think life could get no better. .

We have tried to work with the GCCC on this issue but only the Quiksilver Pro has exclusive rights. That was why I moved the Malfunction to Kingi. It is also one of the reasons the Maili Masters is in September when there should be less crowds in the water.

Sat is looking a little average but Sunday is looking real promising all day.
You may get a beach start on Saturday if spots are available or come to the meet & greet on Friday night or call me on 0414569208

That's shame Big Sean I'm a fan of you work mate and its a great comp run very professionally, good vibe in and out of the water.

I'll be there as a spectator and eat the BBQ clean

The wind looks all wrong at this point hope we see a change by Saturday.

edit-I'll tap you and say hello this time, nearly did last year but you were flatout at the time.
