How good would a day like this be.........we used to do a few days in Taranakai where we surfed in the morning and boarded the arvo but although the surf pumped the snow was never that flash. Good fun though. Wish we had had a heli !!

We pick up NZ professional surfer Maz Quinn and take him straight up to Snow Park NZ to see how his skills transfer on the snow! The next morning heli tours picks up the crew and fly's straight to the West Coast to go surfing, with Maz in his element the snowboarders get shown how it's done before flying back to Snow Park for a couple of lazy afternoon laps. An epic day!

We have done days here as well Ted where we have tobogganed in the morning and surfed in the afternoon . Not that the snow here is as good as you would get in NZ but yeah , great fun days .

Wonder if Maz Quinn was paid for the job . Would be tough .

Mate of mine did the same in california - surf morning and ski arvo.
Fark I would be tonguing for a beer or 20 after that day.

Btw, hearing the name Taranaki reminds me of the ex-rugby commentator Gordon Bray in the late 80's describing one of the All Black players as "the son of a Taranaki pig farmer". I can't recall which player he was refering to - maybe Ted, TB or Gizzie may recall.

That would have to be one of our old legendary halfbacks - Dave Loveridge

I just googled him to check and low and behold I found this

Loveridge remains on the family pig farm in Taranaki with his wife Janine to this day, and is father to three adult children. He is employed as a staff coach by the New Zealand Rugby Union, has coached the Taranaki under-23 development team, been on three tours with the New Zealand youth team, spent two years coaching the Wellington Hurricanes under-20 development side and been a selector for the New Zealand under-19s.

Gordon Bray often referred to him as "the pig farmer from Taranaki" during his commentary broadcasts.

Classic. Nice trek down memory lane their Scotty.

We did lots of surf / snow days when I was at Uni first time around - a mate of mine left school and went down to Taranaki to do a board making apprenticeship under the "Freezing Hot" label. We used to head down and stay with him. Some mad winter trips where we would go mushroom picking and then fall asleep on our board bags in our sleeping bags and wake up with a heavy jew all around us or a frost and cows doing their morning dumps close by. We would jump into our wetties and surf Rocky Rights, Lefts, Stent. The Patch etc and then head up to for a snowboard around around 11am. Lots of great days were had. Very cold though - we would have 5/3's, kidney belts, booties and hoods. I miss those care free days..........the last few times I have been back there to see my brother I have caught up with my old mate from all those years ago...he is still shaping and surfing like a lunatic! He has hardly changed at all - still very mellow and enjoying his life and surfing remote / uncrowded quality waves. Where did I go wrong
