I started looking at the Indian Coast the other night. No doubt the swell will back off by the time it gets in there.... You would even be able to surf the coasts of Pakistan and Iran. Would be an achievement... Tick off some "boxes" near the bottom of The Bucket List. With modern swell forecasts, and the right conditions... You could easily score some fun points somewhere through there...

Interesting.

You would not need to go too far if you suddenly got the munchies for a curry

I like where they say that "surf" is derived from an Indian word. I have an Indian friend who delights in reeling off a plethora of common words that have some sort of relationship with the sub continent, regardless of how tenuous.

One day I would love to explain to him some basic concepts of the origins of the IndoEuropean lingo we all speak when our origins are along that belted latitude from India to Ireland.

Well all except for 2 that no one knows where they came from.

BTW good doco on tonight about the Dover intelligent design trial part 2, it starts at 8.30.

I have not been to India Mac but a lot of my mates have been through Sri Lanka and scored some great waves. Mates who have been to India have been there snowboarding and love it. Cheap as chips, great food and unreal snow - the only issue been a distinct lack of medical care if something (which inevitabally always does) goes wrong. $10 USD for the day on a snowcat! Sure beats lift passes in Australia which now touch a $100. The southern end of SL goes off up until April with the winds offshore and the swell coming in from the South. The winds then swing and everyone heads for the multiple right hand point breaks around the Arugam Bay area on the east coast. One would imagine that the southern and western edges of India would not be short of swell. Whilst SL would block lots of the swell to the Eastern edges. I am sure you will find some nice ones.

Just did a quick google and found this site. One would be pretty confident that despite the large population you will not find the surf crowded! Goa is a huge party town with loads of Russian mafia types ruling the roost there these days. Its quick flight in from St Petersberg & Moscow so the Russians all head there for their quick fix in the sun beach holiday.

Surf in India? I'll never forget this sequence of Dave Rastovich from the movie Castles in the Sky. A beautiful righthander surfed to the max by someone with so much speed and style. Mesmerising! - Mark
