I've used both, currently using a knee set up. Can't remember the brand, but only bought the knee because it was the only one the shop had for a 10 footer and I was desperate to get the new board in the water.

Ankle everyday I don't / can't nose ride to save myself so no point .

Big fan of O&E one legropes.

Just bought an ankle FK leash for the new log, seems ok but it hasn't been put under any duress at all. Have always used ankle as I also don't (ok can't) noseride

My go-to is the O&E Diamond Flex.... but you asked for ones that aren't from the big names.
I use a Dakine big wave (can't remember model) on my old 12' Munoz. That beast weights a tonne.

I use knee, less chance of a trip up walking the plank

I've used both and prefer ankle leggies.

Always feels safer if a waves pulls the board (eg from a wipeout) when wearing an ankle leggie - a pulled board with a knee leggie feels slightly dodgy on the knee, with my knee history at least.

O+E knee rope. Easier to grab to retrieve board cause you don't have to reach that far.
