Looking at going March,a while back there was a thread on Lombok,looking at the best longboard suited waves and which part of the island to surf and stay?

I am going in March with a few mates too! Last year we went late September October and got good fun waves around the place. March should open up a few other spots as winds will be different / milder
Most surfing is done around the Kuta region, must say didn't see many, if any longboards during our last stay....plenty far kn Russians Norwegians and Japanese surfers around though !!!!!!

Heaps of accommodation from pretty classy -Novotel thru to real rustic n cheap. We stayed at the kuta indah (or sum ink similar) was ok fair to middling but was having plenty refurbishment going on so it is prob better by now......Surfers Inn seemed pretty cool, we r going to hunt out some accom in Kuta area or maybe Grupuk too, depends where the surf is going to be ( both spots are reasonably close but the roads were average last time)

May catch up for a beer although I do surf for the dark side of the forum

I reckon you should be able to sniff out some uncrowded beach breaks.

The main place to stay is Kute Beach on the South Central Coast. When I was there, we did 1 morning trip, and 1 afternoon trip each day. 2 surf sessions per day.

The other main option is to head out to Ekas Surf Camp, out near one of the South East tips of the island.

West of Kute - you have a few Left & Right Point (access by boats), before you get out to the best left, 45 mins away from Kute. It's called Mawi (as in Maui). Mawi is accessed by Car / Bemo.

To the east of Kute, is Garupuk Bay, which has several breaks scattered in this area. Bemo to the Bay, then shorter boat to the waves.

This joint does this all through March. Great hotel right on the point and a few bars and restaurants. It's got a vibe like
Kuta 30 years ago. The point is offshore in the wet and surfable from knee high through to 4-6ft. At 4-6 it's a grinding tube with about 4 different sections, under 3ft it's three or four different waves, all rights. Watch out for snakes around the hotel and the point. ****loads of Cobras.
If it gets too big shoot up to Trawangan for an endless right hand reef/point and a couple of options on the other Gilis.

Make sure you check the pottery out Mac, would be a worthy addition to the business.

Inside Ekas (Ekas Bay)has a left and right,the left longer and more 'fun', the right punchier with more potential for barrels. I went in by boat but a few guys in the surf were at the resort on the cliff top and reckoned it was pretty good. Outside Ekas breaks on a bigger swell but not while I was there. Desert point is a great wave but breaks hard on the reef depending on tide. I surfed it on a 8' and wrapped a leg rope around the reef for a very hairy 15-20 seconds ti the leggy broke.The camp at deserts was basic and prone to thieving by locals. Apparently it is better now. This was 4 yrs ago so how relevant this is???

If the trades kick in it would be onshore at the Right but there is a left on the other side. You'd also have the early before the trades kick in.
