The project to develop a massive cruise ship terminal, marina and casino along Kirra foreshore is back on the agenda and the developers are serious. The project includes land grabbing 1km of public beach along Kirra/Bilinga and developing a marina stretching 1km out to sea. The developers have said they'd be able to start within six months if they get the go ahead. The time to act is now. If you're against this monstrosity and potential blight on the southern Gold Coast, the troops are marshalling - go to the Save Our Southern Beaches Alliance FB page and like it and get ready to get involved! Spread the word!

i say good

and why would i say that..

because this type of sh!t is happening all around the state with massive big hungry coal companies Farking beach's and ports
and the REEF while the Southern part of the state live in their little bubble.
and why would GC and Brisbane give a flying fark when so many work in the mining sector, fly in fly out, 1 week on 1 week off and go
and surf their GC point to them-self and think nothing of it...until now... so how does it feel boys Pfffffffffft
Hahahahahah and you guys think that structure is big

hey and if you find my attitude is insulting or obnoxious.. you would act the same if it did happen

may as well make it a desalination plant as well , duel purpose !

that way not as much private money needed , government { us } will pay for it

if we are going to destroy the environment , may as well do it properly !!

there may be some people who actually know the effect this structure will have on the environment.

Come on all you boffins out there , whats it gunna do ?

Lacey my family and i have been to nearly every save our spit March there has been....the sad fact about being a Aussie is we are so apathetic...we are all good to whinge and whine while we are on the piss,or just whingeing in general....but when it comes down to push comes to shove....well, it's the only time in my life I'm not proud to be a Aussie...all talk and no ****ing action...so yes you are right..peeps don't think the bloke next to you will do it...you have to be the person that does it

The people organising the Kirra marina fight are asking any body who can, and wants to, to go down and support Mick Fanning this Friday morning when he does an interview with the Today show about this project. Might be worth checking the show if you can't make it.

From the Save Our Southern Beaches Alliance FB page:

Come and join 3 times World Champ Mick Fanning this Friday 10th January at 6.15amQldtime in front of North Kirra Surf Club for the Today morning TV Show, we need as many supporters in the background and spreading the message about the Big Paddle Out for Sunday 19th January 10amQldtime@ North Kirra Surf Club. photo by Swilly aka Simon Williams in 2009.

Great news, I don't think it was ever really an option.

I emailed Jan Stuckey (local State Member) last week as follows

"Hi Jan,

As a Currumbin Waters resident & rate payer can you please advise of your position on potential Bilinga Cruise Ship Terminal?

I am not in favour of a cruise ship terminal at Bilinga on many levels and will take active part in ensuring this does not proceed.

Thank you

DG"

Got this reply yesterday:

Thank you for your email to Ms Stuckey regarding the proposal for the Bilinga Cruise Ship Terminal. Ms Stuckey has noted your concerns and asked me to respond on her behalf.

The first Ms Stuckey heard about this proposal since August 2012 was on 27 December 2013 on TV. There is a planned paddle out for this Sunday 19 January and Ms Stuckey will be attending and speaking at this event.

It is also worth noting the Deputy Premier???s recent quote on this topic:
???Look, I haven???t had any serious approaches about those off-the-beach type options. I would have to say that I would be very sceptical that those types of options would ever receive the community support or Government approval, but I make that comment without having had any firm approaches from those proponents.???

Ms Stuckey will keep constituents informed of any progress or updates on this proposal.

Kind regards

Any of you heading to the protest paddle out this Sunday at 10 am just north of N. Kirra SLSC?

I think it's still important to send a message to the current/future developers & pollies -even if the project has lost a bit of steam.
