Anyone got any hot tips? Looking at a bit of time between semesters up there and am keen to know what the swell and wind tends to do. May also be looking to get a lend of a shorty or a long board as well.

Risky time of year could be a bit of swell but you might get the wind n rain that go with it.
I scored late July a couple years ago but it's a bit touch and go.
Even though it's winter you can get a week of nothing.
Still not a bad break from the tassie cold that time of year, high chance the points at home would probably be near as good that time of year (just way way way colder) I surfed coolie last July august in boardies so not too bad at all. Local crew were for most part in steamers

The points are pretty flat that time of year, but the beachies over the hill can have some good clean waves.
I wouldn't expect to get anything over 3 foot, with most beachies having between 1 - 3 foot, but sometimes it can be flat for a week or longer at a time.
If it is a "true winter" though you may score good, because at this time of year it mostly means Crisp mornings with light offshore winds, Sunny days and the water is super clear.
These conditions will last from say the start of june till around the end of august... But only if it is a "true winter"
Being used to cold water you will get away with boardies and a thermal or woolen rashie, but a springy wouldn't hurt either.
