HI all,

I've been out of the water for 10 months due to various injuries and recently I've been getting back in the water 2/3 times a week. I was riding a 7' Mctavish bobsled. However due to shoulder(s) injuries its a bit of a strain on them and now been using my old (cheap) 8' min-mal. I'm actually having a bit of a laugh as the wave count has gone up massively so thinking this might actually be the way forward for me these days. However its not the most maneuverable of vessel, so was wondering if there was a shape/style of board that would give that easy paddle/wave catch attributes but a little more easy to handle. I was thinking something like the 7s superfish, but reading a couple of reviews seems its definitely not so easy to paddle about it.

cheers

Gotta be reactive eh Mac.....

Watch Joel Tudor, that's a performance.....

And his board is long... just depends on your definition of performance...

Shop around for the kinda dimensions that mac is suggesting BUT you will get a perfectly good mal for half the price of a new Mctavish and it'll surf every bit as well based on the info you have given about yourself. You will get a very good suitable board for between $450-$750 depending on brand and condition. If you really feel the need to lash out on new then there are excellent boards around for under a grand.

My next HP longboard is going to be a thruster! maybe even a quad (maybe)

2+1 may be traditional longboard but i think it is no comparison in performance

ok my 2cents. i have argued for a year now that h/p longboards are a myth. that if you want performance you need less board(i still believe that) for obvious reasons,ie weight, size etc. well after having a few beers with mac an mr del rosso, steve convinced me to try a h/p 9'1 thruster he had. well the next day i surfed ankle to waist heigh lm. i caught everything, waves i would not have caught on my .
the board was super fast, way more reactive than my i could walk/shuffle to the
nose no problem.

then had it in beachies from waist to head high. this board is nuts as a thruster, could paddle into dumping beachies early pop. yet had enough nose and tail lift to keep me upright(a lot of sb were getting nailed for the late paddle)

as reactive as the board is,it is still not what i call h/p. i mean im a below average surfer, yet i can hit the lip way more easily on my shorty.....yet i know what will be my 80% board come monday....9'1 h/p thruster

I must say,Chrispy rode this board very well and it was suited to him from the first wave I saw, however it was small and if he/you rode it off the tail it would smack lips so hard they would be fat and black.

As per Chrispy... Just go the 9'1 or 9'0. Don't worry about 8.

You should probably consider a quiver something like;
7'0 Bobsled
8'0 Sumo, maybe even an 8'0 Tracker, for an extra challenge.
9'1 Fireball or EvoII or UFO or Original, or Similar.

My personal take on the Tracker... Consider getting a custom Tracker, but customised with modern hard rails at the back. Old school tints!

Have you guys noticed the modern curve cut on the in lay patches...
Curves on the fin patch. More commonly in the past, they were cut straight.
