I will say you missed a pearler of a trip to Byron - surf was up to it , great day wish more came along it was so good

I feel sorry for Thai people - imagine eating Thai food day and night everyday.
And the Chinese, poor things - couldn't eat Chinese everyday either... sang chow boy for breaky, sweet & sour pork for lunch and beef in black bean for dinner. Love that fried icecream but.

Yes mate, stoked to be home. The world thing is just a talk up.

The trip was to take up a career opportunity not available within this country. For a guy that loves tinkering with surfboards and design it's a bit like being given the golden ticket to Willy Wonkas chocolate factory.

I'm stoked, did I say stoked?

Scotty, don't care for Chinese at all. Was there for 3 days, still can't handle it again.

Thai on the other hand, I can eat all day and night. Japanese also, lots of Jap options in T'Land. I had McCrap a couple of times while there as it doesnt get any more Western than that I guess. Horrible but reliably so.

Best Mexican food I've ever had was in Thailand, odd but true.

I loved poco loco's at Legian for mexican.
I had mexican food in Mexico on our honeymoon and it was ordinary.

It's just a big surfboard factory, I had customs made while I was there. Nothing secretive to really tell.

One of the things I was working on with the Australian Surf Craft Industry Association was labelling and pricing. The thing I will say is that everything from there is labelled correctly and sold at premium prices. No small or unprofessional brands can meet the order quantities so no necessity to be sold cheap anyway.

That kind of stuff is the domain of China, not Thailand. It's why you see Mac's brand in Thailand.

I did see some stuff that blows the strength and weight thing off the map though. Coco Mat construction has all of the engineers up there blowing chunks. The strongest construction that they have seen. I didnt really understand it until now. Remember you read it here when you see in 5 years that it is the new standard for strength and weight. 50% stronger than PVC Sandwich which until now was the ducks nuts for durability.

well that sounds like a great thing - its about time we moved forward in the technology stakes. What is the time frame? Cost? Weight difference? of this new material......I am thinking that I shall need me some !

i think there was a thread about that coconut stuff awhile back in the 666 room? well im pretty sure. hey cmc what about this cork stuff they are using as well now,whats the deal with that?

The cork stuff is pretty cool as well. One of the good things about cork is it still creates a sandwich but does not stiffen the board too much. Not as strong as others, maybe the same as Bamboo. Not as strong as PVC, Coco or other materials.

So many combinations of materials. In surfing it's been pretty much retarded and I don't mean mentally just in time with the usage of technology. If you look at windsurfing their boards are so complex in lay up and material types they make surfboards look archaic.

In my opinion it's a great thing for surfing and the industry that new materials are coming onto the scene, they let the industry break free from it's same as ever profit free downward cycle it's been on. (particularly shortboards). New materials and technology are pushing the price upwards and that lets people come up under it to a point where maybe the industry will survive.

That's not pro import or local that's just reality. People are going broke everywhere and it's mainly as they don't make any money due to charging too little.
